What is culture? It’s not about your belief or your faith instead it’s all about your customs, ideals, social behavior which a particular individual or a group follows. In short culture means ‘a way of life’. In spite of combination of some good and bad features still one should be proud, respect its impressive tradition.Indian culture, which is one of the oldest and richest cultures known in other, parts of the world, is nowadays posing a serious threat as western culture is establishing its strong base in India which will slowly; gradually wipe away the Indian culture.

A scholar writes that “India is not, as people keep calling it, and underdeveloped country, but rather, in the context of its history and cultural heritage, a highly developed one in an advanced state of decay”.Despite of these severe threats still Indian culture has a multi-diverse flavor which has been consistently unique in its very own way. Starting from the rishis in the Vedic period, we see several divine personalities like Mahavira, Buddha, Ashoka, Shankara, Madhvacharya, Krishnadevaraya, Akbar, Basava, Guru Govind Singh, Gandhi etc. who have spread these values through their preaching’s and examples.

The first value which underlies our culture is the faith in the Moral and Spiritual order. The Vedic sages called it Rita but later it was called Dharma. The other value is dedication, surrender of the ego to God (Samyama). In addition manners, traditions, living and trading patterns etc. are one of the graceful components of Indian culture. Although the most feature of Indian culture is its value which is deeply rooted within the heart, mind, body and soul of its dwellers but still influence of western culture started in India during 19th century have started destructing the roots.

What do you understand byword ‘western culture’? Is it all about a religion which a western family follows? No, it’s not about any religion or any belief but it is about social behavior, thinking, mentality etc. which are followed by western families. Western culture, considered as the most advanced culture on the globe, has started surmounting its flavor on Indian roots. Moreover western culture has always shown its influence on Indian society due to multiple reasons like fascination, dreamy autonomy etc., which was somehow absent in Indian culture.

Nevertheless western culture conveys and promotes the ideas and values of advanced civilization across people of India. As we know that every package comes with pros and cons, which indicates that there are ample of positive things as well as immense negative influences.Civilization does meet and even merge but never has such an impact been witnessed as the impact of west on India. Not only each and every home but also each and every sphere of life has been completely influenced by the west that it is difficult to recognize what is Indian in India whereas our food, food habit, our dances, our songs, our music’s, our dances, are all of western patter. As a result one often wonders whether, where we live in India, or a colony of west? Doubtlessly this only points to the ugly truth that we have got independence from British only physically and politically but mentally and culturally the onslaught on India has been complete.

Westernization should not affect the core tradition of Indian society but may change the lifestyle and apparent characteristics of the society with the graceful add-ons like punctuality, trustworthiness, loyalty, professionalism should be welcomed and adored. Besides that updating is necessary but getting washed away in influence is wide off mark. In like manner due to globalization the rich culture of India is disappearing. Furthermore if this continues, days will not be far away when the famous civilization would be buried not by others but by the Indian themselves.

A somebody has stated “People without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots”.Although westernization has given rise to single families due to which marriages are fastly breaking and our tolerance, patience has given answer as well as our new blooms are even the most affected one which have sprouted they find themselves stressed and isolated in this new atmosphere as there is no one to take care of them. Secondly it is very unfortunate that the new sprouts remain untouched and cut-off from our moral values and samsara’s. Eventually the culture of India is been disappearing by many ways the youths in India having: lack of morals; the lacking faith in God; late night parties; least interest in Indian languages namely Sanskrit, Hindi.

Contradictory thinking to be independent at an early age leads to influence of drugs and alcohols. Moreover the leading reason for such impact is pursuit of wealth and power of western media. In my view, it is good to learn whatever is good anywhere but to learn a thing just because it is of west only depicts a crumble and shattered state of the Indian mind.
