Vygotsky and Piaget both believed that children are active seekers of knowledge. While Vygotsky believed that children were greatly impacted by rich social and cultural environment, Piaget believed that children are impacted by their own personal experiences. For example, Piaget suggests that children learn through activities which they experience such as cooking and water play eventually start to develop certain mathematical concepts through their explorations.Throughout my planning I will include numbers around my activities e.g go and get me 10 cups,10 plates and 10 people for our picnic.

In fact, Piaget describes the child as a "little scientist". Both Piaget and Vygotsky believe in the discovery of learning and all children learn in different ways. However, while Piaget value self exploration, Vygotsky emphasizes the fact that a child need support throughout the activity, this is where differentiate comes into my planning, Zone of proximal development. Like Piaget, Vygotsky believed that there were some problems out of a child's range of understanding.

However, in contrast, Vygotsky believed that given proper help and assistance, children could perform a problem that Piaget would consider to be out of the child's mental capabilities. Showing the children different ways of learning and how we can build up on moving onto the next stage. The zone is the area at which a child can perform a challenging task, given appropriate help. Piaget and Vygotsky also differ in how they approach discovery learning.

This how other agencies are involved if a child is struggling to grasp the concept of a simple role play activity they will provide extra paperwork for us to complete, extra games and extra strategies to help that child develop in a different way which is understood clearly by that child. IEPs will make a great contribution to the Childs learning style.Transitions - we use these theories when dealing with a transition by looking at the child's individual way of learning. Whilst a child is going through a transition we can provide different activities to help the child.

Good explanation is key, allowing the child to explain how they feel or how they want things to go.
