Apparently, it is a very emotional experience for a woman to carry an unborn child within a segment of her life. Apart from the physical presence of the baby, it is also very evident that there is an unseen emotional attachment between the mother and the child that makes pregnancy a wonderful experience. However, it cannot be denied that a physical aspect of a baby within the mother’s womb can generally predict how the mother would feel given particular circumstances.

For Liz, the best thing to do is to enlighten her again about how expectant mothers in general truly feel when the baby in the womb changes in physical position. It is very important to tell her that it is very normal for the unborn baby to at least move about the womb since this is a good indicator that the child receives a stimulus from the mother’s activity or even from the mother’s environment. It can be a traumatic experience for mothers to feel uncomfortable in pregnancy especially if it will be their first baby so Liz can be taught at least to tolerate the movements of the baby inside her. The physical change in position of the baby should be relayed to Liz that it is a very normal thing and that all mothers tend to experience it at least once.

Also, she should be told that there is nothing to worry about such activity. On the aspect of Liz’s refusal to undergo ultrasound, such perspective is not really a surprising one. Basically, most parents do not wish to undergo ultrasound in order to give them the thrills and excitement of bringing a child to this world in full surprise. For many mothers and couples, this aspect brings more natural excitement for them to wait for the baby, especially about the gender aspect.Without any knowledge about the baby can be a very big revelation to the couple thus making it a more memorable experience.

Therefore, this kind of attitude can be attributed more on a psychological aspect rather than any possible reasons. On the other hand, some mothers would want to undergo an ultrasound scanning for them to immediately see the status of the baby and the gender. Basically, the main advantage is that the couple can prepare for the baby’s name and the things that he or she would need. This could eliminate further stress on the couple and will let them enjoy more the presence of their baby without further worries about how they will change their lifestyles according to the baby’s gender. Another positive aspect of ultrasound is that it can readily provide a snapshot of the baby’s health especially in the aspect of physical deformities as according to Hafner.

There seems to be no disadvantages in terms of undergoing ultrasound but it is always an option of the mother whether she would not want to take a glimpse of her baby.On a technical note, ultrasounds tend to provide only the general outline picture since sometimes it cannot provide the best quality for optimum baby health analysis. Ultrasound waves cannot even permeate bone matters and gas chambers inside the body (Medical Illustrations 1). In the event that Liz becomes eager to undergo ultrasound, it is very likely that she will become bored and would just force herself to undergo with the procedure even if she thinks it is unimportant. In order to make her feel that it is necessary and at the same time enjoyable, it is appropriate to give her some forms of relaxing activates to stimulate her interest.

For example, if she is not interested to take a look at her baby, she can be given some reading materials if she is comfortable reading lying down. Or, she can be given an eye mask and a complimentary soothing and relaxing music. One more, she can be given a soothing massage on the foot by one of the medical staff. All of these activities will definitely reduce Liz’s boredom when undergoing ultrasound scanning.
