I spent most of my fruitful childhood years in one of the widely known countries that participated in numerous wars and conflicts with other nations. My country is famous for its involvement in Cuban Missile Crisis, war with the French army, implementing the scorch-earth policy and the unexpected alliance with the United States during the World War II. Russia is known for its adherence on communism, that later evolved to socialism ideologies despised by many of the western countries.

This left a rather unpleasant impression on Russia, but I can say with pride that this place is the one responsible for who I am now. Russia is located somewhere on top of the globe. It is placed above China—another communist nation. Russia is one of the largest nations on earth, twice the size of the United States. In the north of Russia you will sea the Arctic Ocean.

The northern land part is tundra; the land is mostly covered with moss and shrubs. Only a few animals can survive in that kind of environment, such as Arctic foxes, polar bears and Santa's reindeers. The other side of the land is a rich forest full of wild animals like wolves, bears, and lynxes (Russia, 2003). A lot of forests can also be found in Russia.

These forests are rich in several essential and valuable natural resources that people are unable to utilize properly. These parts of Russia are the preserved and untouched areas of the country which show the natural beauty of my country. My family and I, like most of the people in Russia, reside in the city, as the means of living are there.Life in the city is not as glamorous as in other countries. Most families rent and live in small apartments; sometimes, they share it with other families. To get to a place, most people travel through public transportation (Russia, 2003).

Russia has numerous factories and many people work there. I experienced waiting in long lines for food. We stand in lines for a loaf of bread. We are unable to buy a lot of food because of the idea practiced by our country.

Communism is a principle that practices the idea of “according to one’s needs”.If we want another loaf of bread for the next day, we have to wait in line again tomorrow. Bread is one of the staple foods that should always be present on the table. The bread that I eat almost everyday, I could perfectly recognize its taste that has almost gone stale. My childhood was an unregretful one. It was full of wonderful and funny memories.

I enjoyed running on the streets as I played in barefoot with my friends. I loved the feeling of the rich Russian soil touching my feet; it sent tingles on my little toes.As I ran swiftly with my friends, the wind would always caress my young face ever so gently. Our laughs were carefree and uncontrollable. We never forgot to attend school, but whenever classes were over, we went back to our playful selves and explored the wonders of the city.

Then, during one sweltering hot summer, we bathed in streams and rivers. The splash of the cool water was refreshing; it calmed our inner souls. Even now that I am an adult, the city still exudes an aura of magnificence and beauty, and I savor it all whenever I roam around its broad streets and alleyways.Even though many of the infrastructures and landmarks have been standing there for centuries that some would regard them as ordinary-looking, they never fail to amaze me and excite me. Seeing the scenery causes my heart to race as if I have laid my eyes on it for the first time. Russia has molded and shaped me into who I am now.

My developed personality is formed by the inherent values, beliefs, and traditions of my wonderful country that played a significant role in my life. Wherever I go, I will always look forward going back to the Russia.
