Should people be allowed to own Pit bulls? According to Defend Pit Bulls (July, 2009), the Pit bull breed makes up 5-9. 6% of the United States dog population, in 2007 there were 72 million dogs in the US making that between 3,600,000 and 6,912,000 Pit bull breed dogs in the United States. This particular breed of dog is typically stereotyped against as being a vicious and dangerous breed of dog.

This is not true in most cases. There is a just as good a chance to be attacked by a Rottweiler or Chow.People should be allowed to own Pit bulls because they are very loving, smart, and great protectors. If a Pit bull is raised in a loving and caring home then this dog will give its owner plenty of love. This type of dog likes lots of attention and affection. If a Pit bull does not live in a loving home then there is a better chance it could turn out to be a danger to people They have lots of personality and are very playful even into adulthood.

Their attention does need to be feed, either with walks, toys, or just some play time can do this dog good for its large amount of energy.As stated by Bully Paws (2013), Pit bulls are social, friendly, and bond strongly to their owners. Once that bond is established the pit bull is eager to learn. Pit bulls are generally very smart dogs.

This quality makes them very easy to train. With just a little time and a few treats they will quickly learn different tricks such as sit, stay, and roll over. Not only are they pets, they also work and serve jobs such as drug and bomb detection or search and rescue (Bully Paws, 2013). Pit bulls can be used in many different environments and situations.They are very agile and strong.

Not only are they smart, they are very good as a guard dog. Protecting their territory is second nature to them. This is a good reason to have one in the yard. Some have been known to be dog aggressive and cannot be put in a yard with other dogs.

In these cases it is usually a Pit bull that has been abused or made to fight. Since this type of dog has a strong bond with its owner, then this dog will protect its owner at any cost. Their naturally aggressive nature makes them a good defender of the property.A person should not be denied the right to own a Pit bull. Not all people who own this type of dog do it for the purpose of fighting. Not all Pit bulls are ferocious.

Raising this dog in a caring and devoted home will heavily influence the temperament of this type of dog. The intelligence level for these dogs is astounding. When it comes to watching the house and yard, this dog is ranked in the top five. There should be laws in place such as permits and licenses to own Pit bulls but not saying someone cannot own one at all.
