Grace Reed worked for an answering service for 18 months before being promoted to a supervisory position. In which, she strived to achieve. Once obtained Grace is faced with many challenges. She wants to maintain friendship’s all why transitioning into her new position as a supervisor.
Along the way she ran into a few problems. Grace wanted to try new things and gain the respect she was due as a supervisor. Grace possesses many skills needed to be a successful leader.Such as technical skills, which include simple things such as the ability to properly operate a computer, efficiently use the various software programs that are required in her particular environment, and handle other electronic gadgets that may pertain to her job function. Grace also possesses good interpersonal skills that are the foundation when building successful relationships. This skill set is essential to become an effective communicator and develop your interpersonal experiences into valuable relationships.
I believe Grace could improve on the following characteristics such as face to face solving problems, be more courageous to stand up to her friends and talk with them on one to one basis informing them of the changes that need to be made or they would be written up. Grace could also improve on her imagination by making timely and appropriate changes to her thinking, plans, and methods. She could show creativity by thinking of new and better goals, ideas, and solutions to problems. Also be more inspiring by displaying confidence in all that she does. By showing endurance in mental, physical, and spiritual stamina, Grace will inspire others to reach for new heights. Take charge when necessary! I believe Grace’s problems started due to the fact that she did not transition into her position well.
She went about implementing changes to fast without consulting with her team first. Also I think that if she would have consulted with the team they would have been more receptive to her changes.Lastly, she did not set boundaries between her work and personal life. Grace could draw on her interpersonal skills which make her a good communicator. She is able to accurately, precisely and positively communicate her instructions, suggestions or feedback to others. She could also draw on her organizational and directing skills to get the team involved in helping with the delegation of work and involving them with training new hires.
I believe Grace could incorporate the Democratic leadership style into her new found position. It would help with the transition from friend to supervisor. Also by asking employees for their suggestions it could help build team morale and productivity. Therefore, you will need to practice a fair share of diplomacy in your role. In conclusion, I believe Grace will be a great shift supervisor once she incorporates her own style. Managing people and processes is a style in itself that requires dedication and experience-blended practice.
