Would you want your child to be overweight, have bad sportsmanship and cooperation? What about your child to be stressed or depressed? Some students in schools today are not required to take Physical Education courses which negatively affect children. 13. 2% of Mexican-American girls four to five years old are classified as over-weight according to a University of Michigan study on Physical Education in America’s schools. Also coming from the same study 12% of Mexican-American boys, 8.

5% of African-American boys, 2. 7% of white boys age’s four to five, and 9. 0% of white girls are classified as over-weight (Fitzgibbon).Five out of twenty-five students do not participate in any vigorous exercise outside of school as stated in a Michigan study.

If students were required to take Physical Education, the United States would not be home to as many over-weight people. Some students may not be able to exercise at home. They might not be allowed to go outside when their parents are not at home. Plus their parents work long hours which prevents them from getting home at a reasonable time. Physical Education would improve a child’s health in numerous ways that includes improving the heart and lungs.

Physical Education could also reduce the possibility of obesity by the running and exercising which involves movement that in return burns calories Taking Physical Education courses can build good sportsmanship and co-operation. In Physical Education students play many games like football, baseball, and softball. Each of these games requires teamwork. When using teamwork, students are required to communicate with each other which can help build lifelong friendships. Team spirit is also used in games played in Physical Education. Win or lose, students are taught to have good team spirit.

Students are taught to congratulate other team members and the members of other teams and not make fun or put down the losers. Also in games, students are taught to give support to their peers. Students could say “You can do it! ” or “You will get it next time, Great try though! ”. According to a study that proves that when children take Physical Education, students are dramatically more likely to be physically active outside of school. For example if a student does not take a Physical Education course in school, only 16. 9% will participate in team sports outside of school.

If students are enrolled in a Physical Education course in school, 50% of those students will also participate in team sports outside of school (PHIT America). Taking Physical Education courses can relieve stress. According to a teen depression study, suicide is a great cause of death in teens. Suicide is a result of depression and stress. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents and teenagers.

(Teen Depression) If students were required to take Physical Education courses, they would be around more people and have fun playing the many games that are played and come out of depression so suicide is not attempted.Depression happens because of the feeling of loneliness or helplessness. In Physical Education the students would not be alone. According to the National Institute for Mental Health, out of 100,000 teenagers, eight will commit suicide (Teen Depression).

For every suicide death, ten other teen suicide attempts are committed which results in a spread of suicide which all could come to a stop if students were required to take Physical Education in school. Also, blood pressure readings would be reduced. When a student is stressed, their blood pressure rises. Having high blood pressure can place anyone in the hospital or even result in death.

Stress and pain are two of the most common ways that lead to the release of endorphins (Stoppler). Endorphins interact with receptors in the brain to reduce our perception of pain and act similarly to drugs such as morphine and codeine (Stoppler). For example, deaf student does not have very many friends and sits alone in class and alone in a corner at lunch. After a while without anyone trying to talk to her, she became depressed which causes a teen to feel sad, lonely, withdrawn, and unable to accomplish simple tasks.

At her school, students were not required to take Physical Education courses so no one did.If students were taking Physical Education classes, she might have come out of depression due to her classmates trying to talk to her because while playing games in Physical Education, it requires classmates to talk to each other and interact, so she would meet friends. She became worried for herself because she was on anti-depression medications which have side effects that would make her do crazy things like suicide that would not happen if students were required to take Physical Education. Some people will still argue that students should not be required to take Physical Education courses. One thing they might say is that students may get injured while participating in Physical Education, which is not a good excuse because students can get injured doing basically anything.

Another thing someone may argue is that they have their own rights to do whatever they want. Which everyone does have their own rights but it would be better for children to take Physical Education in order to have better health. Some say that a child’s school work and education is more important than taking Physical Education, but if a student does not have good health, they will not in good enough health to do anything. In conclusion, not being required to take Physical Education courses in school negatively affects children. If students were required to take Physical Education courses the United States would not have as many over-weight people, students would learn good sportsmanship and co-operation, and it relieves stress in students.

Also, nobody wants their child to be constantly over-weight, have bad sportsmanship, or co-operation, or be stressed, or depressed.
