Stephanie Lewis is a 45 years old wife to Lewis Leonard who was on March 23, 2008 involved in a motor vehicle accident that left her fighting for her life due to the serious injuries she sustained. Her two children, Trevor 24, and Mickie 21 are both in college. The accident which occurred at Michigan Avenue near Henry Ford Museum in Detroit City involved a transit lorry which hit her after experiencing braking problems as she crossed the road at a zebra crossing. The traffic officer at the scene of the accident took notes of what happened and has already filed those notes for the trial of the driver who was responsible for the accident.

Moreover the truck company was to blame because recent reports indicated that their trucks were causing serious accidents due to their faulty braking systems. Due to the brake failure, the lorry which approached the zebra crossing at a high speed avoided hitting a car that was in front of it and hit Stephanie Lewis who was almost crossing to the pavement, sweeping her off the ground and sending her flying five meters into the air and eventually falling against stone cliffs beside the road.As a result of this accident, Mrs. Lewis sustained five compound fractures on her limbs.

Why negligence caused the accident The driver admitted having faced brake failure but at the same time was driving over the expected speed limit and did not heed to the zebra crossing sign. Although Mrs. Lewis saw the truck swerving, it was too late to make a run from the impending danger. The braking problem in the lorry and the carelessness of the driver are to blame for the accident. Alcohol tests also conducted on the driver indicated that he was driving while drunk.Although the alcohol level in his blood was very low, we cannot rule out the fact that he was somehow drunk, and this also contributed to the horrific accident that left Stephanie Lewis fighting for her dear life in the intensive care unit.

The company that owns the trucks had recorded four cases of accidents resulting from faulty brake systems in the two months preceding the accident. Their negligence in ensuring that their trucks were well-serviced continued to cause more accidents as was the case with Mrs. Lewis.Medical RecordsStephanie Lewis was rescued from her grisly accident by by-standers who called an ambulance which rushed her to the hospital after the driver and his turn-boy got out of the lorry and fled the scene. Upon arrival at Garden City Hospital, she had lost a lot of blood and needed an immediate blood transfusion.

She also had to be operated on to correct the compound fractures. However, the operation had to wait until her blood level had stabilized. During this time, she groaned in great pain as the drugs given could not alleviate the much pain her bruised body was experiencing.Mrs.

Lewis was operated after one week, a period in which she had her limbs somehow deformed because of staying uncorrected for over a week. Multiple surgeries and especially cosmetic surgery had to be performed on her bruised skin. This left her with ugly scars on her body that would take a long time to heal. She also underwent numerous x-rays on her body to determine whether there were any internal injuries.Dr. Sue treated her for a fractured skull which was causing her severe headaches.

Mrs. Lewis was given many drugs with most of them being costly. In addition, she was hospitalized for five months before her discharged on August 4, 2008. Her limbs remained in cast for two and a half months which meant she had to be assisted in most of her personal basic duties as she could hardly move. In many instances, she would complain of headaches, loss of memory and dizziness. She was confined into a wheelchair which meant that someone had to be by her side all the time to offer assistance whenever she needed it.

After the cast were removed, she underwent physical therapy treatment for close to seven months, a period that was characterized by much pain as she tried to regain her walking ability. Due to the accident, her limbs had been immobile for nine months and this caused her tendons to be retracted and inflexible. Although the therapy has given her the hope of walking again, her walk has assumed a limping posture as a result of the sustained injuries. Medical expenses When Mrs. Lewis was discharged, her husband had to raise money to pay for the hefty medical bill her treatment had incurred.

The surgeries did cost US $ 162,450, drugs were bought at $ 11870, therapies charges amounted to $ 114350, while other charges were valued at $ 87560. In total, the bill was US $ 376,230. She also had been prescribed a special diet by the doctors. Losses as a result of the accident Stephanie Lewis was the human resources manager of Malcolm Information Technology Company and since being involved in the accident, she has been unable to earn. She is also afraid that she may not return to her position due to her condition. In the time spent in hospitalization and rehabilitation, she lost an income equivalent to US $ 105,050.

The fear of loosing her job altogether is affecting her as doctors have recommended that she takes complete rest and regular exercises before she can resume work which may take another one and a half years. It is through her job that she supplements her husband’s meager earnings. As such, losing her job would be a devastating blow to their children’s college fees.Other psychic damages After the accident, Mrs.

Lewis has been an emotional wreck, contemplating what happened to her posture that once projected her achievement at Malcolm Information Technology Company to the present status. Being a burden to her family members has also hampered tears in her heart and has stressed her mentally. Her legs sometime become numb and experience cutting pains in the once broken limbs which have to be occasionally taken for check-ups. These occasional discomforts have left her a worried person and embarrassed at the thought that her neighbors now regard her as an invalid. Her children are also psychologically affected by what happened to their mother and are doubtful of their education’s future if their mother does not recover fully to go back to her job through which she could their school fees. Being escorted by her husband wherever she goes, it has been inconveniencing since he has other duties to perform.

Her exercises have to be guided by another person. This has impacted on her negatively since these are things she used to undertake on her own, and blames herself for what happened to her. This has affected her attitude towards life which makes her have weird thoughts about life altogether.Validity of the compensation claims After assessing the conditions that Stephanie Lewis underwent and a calculation of the costs involved, I hereby request that her compensation be viewed with renewed interests. Mrs.

Lewis endured massive pains that no one would wish to undergo. The accident left her fighting for her life as she was put in the intensive care unit for three days until to stabilize her condition . The doctors did a fair job which did cost a lot of money for surgeries and medication. The total cost of the hospital bills combined with her income loss amounts to US $ 481,280.There are other expenses which she incurred and since we could not provide receipts, we were forced to leave them aside.

Mrs. Lewis has undergone pain and suffering and other losses which we cannot empirically account for but all the same should be compensated for considering the excruciating pain suffering she has been through as a result of the acccident. We hope that the insurance company can be fair and award her in total US $ I million as her compensation package. Receipts and other supporting documents are enclosed in this letter to ascertain that the compensation claims are genuine.
