I believe most people deserve a second chance.
But, in order to get this second chance one has to take full responsibility for their actions and go through all of the consequences needed to make them a better person. Once one learns from their mistake and accepts what they did was wrong, then I believe they deserve a second chance to create a positive outcome from the situation. This can be a very hard task for many people to overcome. Especially, when they have it built into their mind that they can’t become a better person because of the unbearable actions that they have committed.But, I believe Michael Vick is a good example of overcoming just that.
Michael Vick took what was a very bad situation for himself, a crime that he committed that was unimaginable to everyone, a crime that made him the most hated person amongst every animal lover in the world, and made himself an all around better person out of it. Vick had to endure every hate and threat one could possibly imagine. Even on top of that, he failed to be a positive role model for his son, and was ashamed that he hurt the ones he loves most, and lost everything that he had accomplished.But, the only thing keeping him from overcoming the terror that he caused was his own self. Vick served his time behind the bars that no person ever wants to experience. He even started to write an autobiography reflecting on his poor choices and even worse actions that got him to where he was at that very moment.
Vick wasn’t expecting to get all of his stardom and money back after being released from prison; he just wanted to show everyone and himself that he can become a better person and role model through his actions, rather than his words.Vick became an advocate for animal welfare, appeared in public service announcements for the Humane Society, and even lobbied congress to pass a law that would make it a misdemeanor to watch illegal animal fights and a felony to bring children to any event of such matter. Vick has to go through each day knowing that his past actions are always going to be a part of his life. A part that he can never change, and a part that he is constantly reminded of and constantly dealing with.Vick is always going to have people that hate him for what he did.
But, the only thing he can possibly do is make himself the best possible person and role odel he can be from his actions. Yes what Michael Vick did was beyond horrible, but I believe everyone has done things in their lives that they wish they had never done, but can never change. The only thing one can do in those situations is to determine how to not make that mistake again, and how to better oneself as a person from those actions. It’s the second chance that I believe most people deserve.
It’s up to that person to make that outcome a positive or a negative one, and I believe what Vick is doing is creating a positive outcome for himself and everyone around him.
