The fleur-de-lis represents the dating from the claim to the French throne made by Edward III in 1340. It is featured on the coat because it brought together the Royal Arms of Scotland, Ireland, and England which are still the main elements of the Royal Arms today.

3.Why is the Irish harp featured on the Coat of Arms? The harp represents Irelands place in the UK. The shield is broke into quarters and the guardant lions represent the filling of the first and fourth quarters. The harp is also on the Ireland coat of Arms.

4.What does the unicorn represent? Why would the rulers of England choose a unicorn to support their shield? Because according to legend a free unicorn was considered a very dangerous beast so that’s why the unicorn was chained.

5.Why does the unicorn have a chain around its neck? The chain means “freedom of oppression” if the chains are broken than they can’t be attached to anything again.

6.The Coat of Arms includes two phrases, “Blessed are the peacemakers” and “Shame to him who evil thinks.” Choose one of these phrases and explain why a ruler might want it included in a coat of arms. I think that the main reason why “Blessed are the peacemakers” is because he is trying to say that the safety of his kingdom is very important to him and peace is the number one issue.

7.Research one of the colors featured in the Coat of Arms. Based on what the color represents, explain why it would be used in a royal coat of arms. Blue represents the kingdoms loyalty and the truth that it believes in to show other kingdoms it’s morals. The color of my shield is a light blue because it stands for optimism. It is important to always have an open mind and be open to new things. The four quarters represent the four stages of life everyone goes through at some point or another or the four most important values to me. The bull represents the truth and that it is always important to be honest no matter what. The bird represents faithfulness and that you will always return even if you are free. The horse represents love and that it is important to receive it as well as give it back. The lion represents loyalty and that no matter what the reasons it is important to stay loyal if promises have been made to someone.
