A lifetime occupation has always been among the main human priorities, standing in the line with family, friends and hobbies. Medicine is an art that allows continuous studying and improvement of knowledge and skills. I decided medicine was my destiny when I was still very young. But only having gained real-life experience, while studying in the medical school, I was able to realise that it is a boundless source of knowledge and wisdom.
It requires much more than any occupation in the world: patience, knowledge, determination, qualification, strength and compassion at the same time. The latter is just as important as the rest, sometimes even more, because patients often entrust us their health and life. They depend on us, and it is out duty to combine integrity, science and humanism in order to help them to recover. I first found out medical practice requires compassion at the very beginning of my medical career. I was on call when one of the patients had a terrible asthmatic attack. I took the case very seriously and did my best to eliminate the problem.
It was not predetermined to stay with the patient and take care of him, but we were short of qualified employees, and I realised that if I didn’t take care of this patient, he might have further serious health problems. So I stayed up all night and didn’t leave him until I was sure he would get over the crisis. I still believe I did the right thing, because it is impossible to help people and cure them properly without compassion and responsibility. I believe that knowledge is another essential determinant of a true professional.
While studying in the medical school, I enjoyed learning medical theory and gaining practical experience. My accomplishments in the medical school can confirm my determination to become a professional medical doctor. This is one of the reasons why I decided to apply for the residency program in internal medicine in the United States. Considering the strong healthcare system, accumulated knowledge and experience, numerous opportunities for in-depth research, and advanced technology in America, this is where I see my dream coming true.I hope that I have enough determination, resilience and experience to succeed in the field of internal medicine.
I also want to become an integral part of a highly professional and well-qualified medical team. I would like to dedicate my time and power to learning and patient care, and strongly I believe that the residency program for internal medicine can offer me a unique and broad experience in the field.
