Music is a part of the civilization in everyone’s society. As it is developed by a number of musicians and geniuses, variety of its kind emerged.
There are genres that are growing from one generation to another generation. Rock and ballad, rap, classic are some examples of the genres of music that has its own style and arrangement that distinguish each from the others. Many musicians study music as if it is like a science that has important details on all its sides. Indeed, music is a field where in many people are trying to make or compose it with the best combinations they may have in their entire lives.
Music is an art that encompass rhythm, timber and pitch so as with other elements that would make it unique with the others’ compositions. After hearing the music piece for this assignment namely Manha De Carnival by Sigman and Bonfa, I recalled of folklore music. It can not be considered as a pop song during this point, but maybe from their point of view before, it can be considered as one. If I remember it right, the kind of its arrangement goes with the serenades in the early 19th century until the year 2000.
The sound of the piece signifies passion for music. There are two parts of the music that made it good to hear. The fast and slow part of the masterpiece play at the same time creating an impression of someone being chased by a passionate and ardent lover. Moreover, I can sense that the producers or composers of the music are somewhat Mexican or Brazilian. Guitars were played best on the music.
One video from youtube. com has about 6 men playing the masterpiece of Luiz Bonfa using string instruments. It can be noted that the pitch of the music is high.If I may look at it, it started with an octave higher than the normal “C” or “do”. But since notes are given for each piece, musicians can always manipulate the set of tones and notes that corresponds the original composition.
Bonfa’s music is dynamic in nature. It started in a slow manner then proceeded to an act that suggests its purpose. Sinval Fonseca is a passionate singer who went through the magic of Bonfa’s music. He sang the song with some touch of whistling and drums playing which I think suited the atmosphere of the music.
Upon looking at the lyrics of the song, even they were written on a Brazilian or a non-English language, I feel that the poem put on this music contains love for someone. If I may compare it with the music of other countries, it is like the “Kundiman” of the Asians, particularly the Filipinos. They use string instruments to express their feelings for their girls. For instance, these kinds of music are used on gathering wherein the boys offer a song for the girls in the town.
Folklore is the main theme of Manha de Carnival. It shows that even before, people already liked music.Manha, though it is far more different with the today’s music, such that of Justin Timberlake, Pussycat Dolls or any other boy band, the music withstands the test of time that it is being a subject for study. Manha de Carnival is a legend that must be told to the generations after us. It contained of the basic concepts of music that can enable the young to discover and explore the world of music.
Its romantic approach should not be neglected that Bonfa gave a great effort of coming up with a romantic yet groovy composition.The song can actually be used on formal parties and formal dances that include a Latin or Mexican motive. Elegance can also be expected with the song such that high class families can only afford to go to places with this kind of background music. I think that this is also suited for ballroom dancing, say sweet or waltz with a twist. It can be improved by putting a good combination of drums and other percussion instruments to make it livelier so that it will be more appreciated by today’s youth.
