The institution of marriage is a social institution, under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal pledges. There are many types of marriage such as Polygamy, monogamy, and polyandry. In this essay we will focus on polygamy and show that it has more advantages than disadvantages. First of all, polygamy decreases the rate of divorce.
Sometimes it's a necessity when the woman is older or sick or the man is not content with only one wife.When this happens, the man will divorce her and look for another woman, especially if he is young and expect to have a great life with his partner. In Morocco, many women don’t find another man before they got divorced from the first one. Because those women don’t want to share her husband, she rather prefers to divorce than live with another woman.
Secondly, polygamy helps women who don’t have material needs. This helps maintain a large number of women and to provide them with material needs and housing.It also allows them to have many children and many descendants, which is recommended by the religion. Although today especially Western economists believe that population growth is related with economic growth. For example, the population of some countries growth goes hand in hand with economic growth like China, Senegal, and United States. Finally, polygamy avoids the treason for men who have sexual needs.
For example, there is men who have strong sexual needs and they cannot be satisfied with one woman.A man may be religious and innocent and wants to satisfy his needs in a lawful manner without committing adultery. No one can deny that in general the sexual needs are greater in men than in women. So, polygamy should be allowed to avoid that the men commit a wrong thing that all government prohibits and consider like a crime. To conclude, polygamy should be allowed in all the countries all over the world like all Muslim countries.
To avoid many problems in the society, governments have to permit to the men to have more than one women.
