The Scottish Ballad Lord Randall is about a young man who comes home from the woods and is met by his mother. The poem’s refrain “For I’m wearied wi huntin” is the reason the young man is requesting his mother to make his bed.

In the middle of the poem the refrain was changed to “For I am sick at the heart. ” The effect of this change on the interpretation of the poem is on the attitude of the mother, from worrying about his son’s condition to worrying what his son would leave her and the rest of the family when the son dies.In the Western Wind, the lover is longing for his beloved. He is hoping for the winds to bring the rain. The rains would keep them indoors, where they can enjoy the warmth and privacy of the hours.
