The lifestyle of Canadians changed dramatically from 1920s to 1930s. In the 1920s, everybody was living happily until the stock market crash in U.

S. which caused the great depression. Canada was greatly affected by the depression. In the 1920s, technology and inventions grew rapidly, entertainment was booming and sports were becoming very popular while in the 1930s, Canadians no longer had money to afford anything and had to live without home, food, jobs and luxuries.

Sports in 1920s became very popular. The twenties were known as Canada's golden age of sports.Everyone who had skills participated in at least one sport. Some of the most famous sports in the 1920s were basketball, baseball, hockey, football and lacrosse.

The sports heroes of the decade were amateurs. They often came out of nowhere to capture the headlines, medals, and world records. The greatest multi-sport hero of that age was Lionel Conacher who played hockey, football, baseball, and lacrosse. 1920’s also were the golden age of sport for women. The Edmonton Grads, which was a basketball team, was all made of women. The Edmonton Grads represented Canada in four Olympic Games and won every one.

In 1930s, physical activity and playing sports decreased. Because of the depression, not many people could afford to send their kids to coaching centers or buy them new equipment. Many children understood the situation their parents were going through because of the depression so they invented a new sport in 1930s, soccer. Soccer was invented in 1930s because it didn’t require a lot of equipment. It required only a soccer ball which lasted pretty long.

In the 1920s, a lot of new ways for entertainment were invented for people to enjoy themselves with their family and friends. The 1920s were called the “roaring twenties” because it was time for glamour and prosperity for everyone. People were making up for the misery of the war by enjoying many new ways of entertainment like jazz music, dances, parades, orchestras, family picnics, radio, theatres and cars. In 1030s, when the great depression hit, people didn’t know who or where to turn to for their need.Everybody was depressed during the depression and often used the radio to relax down and get their mind off things. There no longer were family picnics or going to concerts and dances because people couldn’t afford any of these extra luxuries.

They were having enough trouble feeding their family food and shelter. During the 1920s, technology and new inventions grew rapidly. People enjoyed listening to the radio or driving cars. Other inventions that got popular in 1920s were Aviation, telephones, television transmitter and insulin. The radio was great communication invention of the 1920s.In the beginning of 1920s, people only listened to American radio because their transmitter was much stronger but later on in 1920s, radio signals across Canada broadcasted news, weather, comedy, advertising for business and music.

People in the remote areas were no longer isolated and were bought in contact with other cities of a nation. The radio was affordable to both poor and rich people. The first automobile was created in the 1920s made by Henry Ford. Ford wanted to mass produce to make inexpensive car so everyone could buy so Ford created an assembly line.

Cars were also sold at a good price that most North Americans could afford. The first car produced was the model-T in 1924 which cost $365. Cars really made it easy and faster for people to move around. They also made it easier to go further so people started to live out of the city.

The first dial telephones appeared in Toronto in 1924; 3 years later the combined handset with mouthpiece and earphone on the same unit came into use. By 1929, telephones were widely used across Canada. Stunt flyer and air travel was also part of 1920s.Canadian pilots returning from war were eager to continue flying.

Many pilots carried out their career performing stunts, delivering mail etc. during the 1930s, technology and inventions slowed down. One main reason for this was because people simply couldn’t afford wasting money on unnecessary luxuries. A lot of people took the engines out of their car and used their car as their home. These cars were often pulled horses to move around. When people didn’t have money and their house got seized by the band, they also lost the luxury of using a telephone.

In 1920s, people were living happily until the 1930s when the depression hit and their lifestyle totally changes and was the exact opposite. In 1920s sports were more popular and fun while in 1930s, when people couldn’t afford or enjoy anything because they were too depressed. In the 1920s, people went to family picnics and concerts while in 1930s, people were too depressed and poor to enjoy anything or go on vacation. In the 1920s, technology and inventions were advancing rapidly because people could afford luxuries while in 1930s, technology and inventions slowed down because no one bought anything.
