NURSING When I grow up I want to be a nurse. I want to work on the pediatric floor at the hospital.

It will take longer to be a pediatric nurse, than a regular nurse. I want to start by becoming a registered nurse, then move on to get my bachelor in scientific nursing. Once completed with that then I want to proceed on to pursuing pediatric nursing. I personally don't care about the amount of money that I would be making. My ideal job is just to help kids. I used to do home daycare and loved the interaction with the children.

I just like to see kids happy. I would like to see kids be cured of infectious diseases. I would like to find a cure for cancer. I would like to work with kids from around birth and up.

It would be a great job for people who love kids. Working with kids does not only require patience, but also someone who is a obsessive with nursing skills, including math skills. Most pediatric medication dosages go by a patient’s weight. You will need to know how to calculate dosages perfectly every time.

Some basic math skills is recommended for this.In order to succeed in a career in pediatric nursing, you also need to be able to be calm under pressure. This SHOULD be true for all nursing, it is especially important when working with children. While these patients are smaller they have less oxygen in the lungs, blood volume, etc.

They get really sick, really quick. As the nurse you will need to be able to assess the situation and intervene if necessary. Panicking will do no good and definitely will hurt the child. When treating a child, you will also be treating the parents.

You will need to be able to answer any questions the parent(s) may have. You would have to explain what is wrong in non-nursing form. You will need to show support and comfort, yet still remain professional. The parents will need to know how to care for their child after they leave the hospital.

The amount of pay you recieve depends on the type of nurse you want to be. Other factors include the location of where you live and work. If you work in a big city, you will make more than if you worked in a little city.So if you worked in Columbus you will make more than if you worked in Zanesville.

The same goes for if you was to work in Los Angeles, California you would make more than if you worked in Columbus, Ohio. On average nurses make approximately $50,000 a year. There are several things that will affect this base rate of pay in your nurse salary. Some of these are: ·Year of experience ·Education Level in school (depends on the area you live) ·Location — which correlates to cost of living Your ability to be flexible (travelling positions, float pool, etc) ·Loyalty to an institution (you will find nurses don’t fare very well in this category) ·Day versus Night shift ·Weekday versus Weekend shift ·Professional Certifications This is to just name a few. There are many reasons why pay would be different from one person to the next.

Nurse Salary — So how much can you REALLY make as a Nurse? (reference) You have to take the NCLEX after nursing school if you plan on practicing in the United States. It can be a difficult test to take. You really need to know a lot. The test to get into the nursing class can be difficult as well. You also have to have a good Grade Point Average (GPA). If you do well on the nursing test in college, doesn't mean you will get into nursing.

Your GPA is considered, whether you get accepted in the nursing program. You have to have both a good grade on the test and also your GPA. The NCLEX is given by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing[->0].If you are getting an associates[->1] or bachelors degree[->2], then you will take the NCLEX-RN. If you are studying to become a licensed practical nurse[->3], then you will take the NCLEX-PN. The two tests differ only in the content and number of questions.

The tests are computerized adaptive tests. For the RN test you will have up to six hours to complete the test. For the PN test you will have up to five hours to complete the test. The number of questions you get on the exam is always a big question for nursing students.

Every RN can ge between 75 and 265 questions. Every LPN can get between 85 and 205 questions. Not anyone can become a nurse and therefore not just anyone can go in and take the test to become a nurse. You must apply to take the test and pay a $200 fee with your state’s nursing board. Applying is pretty easy, but it is recommend doing it as soon as you finish school so you don’t have to wait too long to take the test.

Once you have finished taking the test, you should get the results within 1-2 weeks. Some states are as quick as 2 business days.If you fail you will have the option to take it again. The Dreaded NCLEX Take it and forget it.

(reference). With pediatric nursing you get to deal with children of all ages. Another option that is of interest to me is being an OB/GYN nurse. An OB/GYN nurse is there when the baby is being born. Birth of a baby is the most joyous thing in the world. This is my own opinion.

Babies are a gift from GOD. People should be blessed to be able to have babies. A lot of women is unfortunate to not be able to have kids.As an OB/GYN nurse you are filled with different emotions.

You may have to deliver the baby. Some babies are born stillbron, which means unfortunately they are not alive. That is both hard on the parents, but also the nurses that take care of the mom and the nurses that was to take care of the baby. Some babies are born pre-mature. Pre-mature babies face alot of medical problems.

They can be born without haveing fully functional internal organs. If the mother is on drugs or drinks while pregnant it poses a lot of health factors as well. This would be another reason for pre-mature delivery. Babies that come from a mother with drug or alcohol problems have a lot more wrong with them besides just being pre-mature. These poor babies will grow up and probably never be able to live a normal life. These babies eventually have behavior issues.

They can become bi-polar, ADHD, have problems speaking and even be born with extra or missing limbs. These babies grow up and eventually need to be put on medicine. I know this from experience as I babysit a kid that has these issues. F.

A. E and F. A. S.

D . F. A,E is known as fetal aclcohol effects. F. A.

S. D is known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. These disorders are completely preventable. It can lead to facial abnormalities. Tobacco use is just as dangerous during pregnancy.

Smoking while pregnant can cause low birth weight, premature delivery, and pertains a risk of long term disabilities. Smoking while pregnant doubles the risk of placental problems. Babies that are around second-hand smoke are more likely to develop asthma. They have more respiratory illnesses than babies/kids that are not around smoke.Mothers that smoke during pregnancy could have a baby who has withdrawals, this also includes drugs and alcohol.

Withdrawal symptoms include that the baby can be jittery and hard to soothe. These babies are at a higher risk for SID's. SID is known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. I had a good friend whose baby died from this. It is hard on everyone to deal with the death of a baby or young child. My husband has to deal with death all the time.

He works in the cemetary for the City of Zanesville. The hardest part for him is to bury a baby or young child. It makes you stop and think and be thankful for what you do have in your life. He has said that parents cry on his shoulder all the time, but yet he has to remain professional. The same would go for a nurse who has to deal with a stillborn baby. The nurse is there for support but still has to remain professional.

Some over the counter medicine can hurt a baby. It is suggested to talk with your OB/GYN to see what medicine is safe to use during pregnancy.Acne medicine causes severe medical birth defects. Caffeine should be limited to a minimum as it to can have an impact on the baby.

Good prenatal care is sufficient for the developement of the baby. Someone who influeced me to come back to school is my dear friend Denise. When I was doing daycare I watched her kids so she could go to school. She is my inspiration. To know that at her age she was able to go back and succeed just made me happy.

I am a little younger than her so it made me feel that if she can do it, then so can I.She now works at Genisis Hospital. She makes a sufficient amount of money. She is very happy and I am happy for her.

I just hope that I can be as good as she is. She is an incredible lady that through all her obstacles in life she still suceeded. I am hoping to do the same. I won the scholorship at the Green and White Night here at Ohio University of Zanesville. Winning that put a little spring in my step to further my career and do the best that I can do. It was an amazing night that I will never forget.

It made me realize that this is not a dream. I am going back to school to further my career. I want to be a nurse so bad. I just hope and pray that I can keep my grades up, pass the nursing test for college, have a high GPA, and still be able to juggle everyday life of being a mom and wife.

With being an OB/GYN nurse you deal with babies. With being a pediatric nurse you deal with kids from any age up to age seventeen. Once the child turns eighteen he/she is considered an adult.Professional behavior, especially in a hospital setting is crucial in pediatric nursing because it is the manifest in person, acts and attitudes including elements of: 1. what we wear 2.

how we perform, 3. and how we think. 1. Uniforms. Our appearance to the children .

Dress in professional manor. Smile. Most common notion of showing you are happy to be helping people while doing your job. Give a positive vibe to your patient’s overall experience in a hospital setting. 2. Performance.

Be on point at all times while working, keeping a positive attitude.Nobody likes a debby downer. The outcome of a child’s experience depends on if they remember the hospital as a being a good experience, or a bad one. The pediatric nurse makes it a good one with her positive attitude. Just stay focused and show the child you are there to help them. [-;0] - http://www.
