In the article “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home,” Daniel Weintraub claims that parents are the ones to blame. They’re the ones responsible for their children’s health issues, weight, and their daily exercise.
It isn't the food company’s or the governments fault that some children are obese or a little over weight. It is the parents who let their kid’s chose what to eat and sit on the couch watch TV and play video games; they just let them be sloths. Parents need to take responsibility, stop blaming the food companies about their own health issues and teach their kids and themselves exercising and eating habits.I agree that parents are the ones responsible for their children’s obesity because they are the ones who watch over their children.
One reason that parents are the most responsible for the rise in obesity is that they don’t pay attention to how they’re feeding their children. The kids eat what they want and start getting used to it. They end up wanting all that fast food it becomes their daily routine. Weintraub agrees when he writes, “It’s the fault of parents who let their kids eat unhealthy foods and sit in front of the television or computer for hours at a time.
Weintraub’s point is that parents should start taking responsibility to protect their children from eating unhealthy foods and lack of exercise, they should stop blaming others. Another reason is that parents are working and it leads to drive-thru meals. Weintraub states, “Fast food is fast. It can also seem cheap, at least before you start adding the fries, sodas, and desserts. And a television or video game can be like an opiate that quiets a restless child so a weary parent can get some rest of his own.
What he is trying to say here is that the parent is tired and just buys the child a fast and cheap meal so he can have some time for himself and not have to cook when he gets home. They should provide a nutritious meal for their children. If parents need to work they should plan ahead and cook a home meal or when they get home from work if it it’s in the afternoon. Parents should try to cook more home meals so then the kids will be used to eating more of the healthy foods. Also instead of having the kids play their video games or watch TV, they should help their children increase levels of physical activity like putting them in a sport.
A third reason to why parents are responsible for their child’s obesity is that they aren't setting stricter rules to the healthy eating habits for their children. They have a huge impact on whether their kids want to eat healthy or unhealthy, or whether they want to watch TV or get up and go exercise for 30 minutes. Eat healthy diets with vegetables and fruits. Have a daily routine for the family.
Live a healthy lifestyle. Don’t think your children will follow the rules if you don’t. Parents need to take matters into their own hands; they shouldn't expect fast food restaurants, schools, the government, or anyone else to do it for them.
