Ever since I can remember, the members of my family have met at my mother’s house every year for Christmas. I can say that this holiday is celebrated two days, one is on December 24th and the second on December 25th, on those two days we try to spend time together talking, laughing, traveling, and playing games and so on.

As a result, Christmas in my family is my favorite time of the year. The day before Christmas, it is felt in the air that everyone waits the midnight with anxiety. For instance, in the morning and in the afternoon the parents with their children go out to look and buy presents, trying to find the best presents. Then, after an exhausted search, when the night is coming, almost everyone goes to the kitchen to help with cooking in our feast that will be served. All you can smell is the baked pie shells and turkey cooking in the oven.

The Christmas tree is decorated with more ornaments and lights wherever possible. The night starts by having a lot of fun, playing board games and the children trying to stay up as long as possible hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. The kids run around until they can’t keep their eyes open and their bodies give into the sleep they need. The adults sit up and talk and drink hot chocolate the taste of warm creamy chocolate with marshmallows on top warms our bodies while we stare at the cold snow outside the window.

Then we get up and put all the presents under the tree. We fill all the stockings with lots of candy and goodies. The next morning the kids are up bright and early bursting with enthusiasm. As we all awake from our slumber we get together and let the children eagerly open their gifts.

After the children open their gifts we all gather around our wonderful Christmas feast at the table. The children rush through their food so they can play with all of their gifts. The adults share the last bit of time together before everyone sets out to go home. As everyone drives home they are left with the memories engraved in their mind of a wonderful Christmas. Christmas is truly a blessing in my family to bring us closer to one another.

I love all of the holidays but Christmas is my favorite compared to the rest. Family is forever and that’s all that matters. Until next Christmas that is all……
