Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a loved figure all over the world. She was the icon of love, and where ever she went people could feel the presence of pure compassion that every Christian strives to aim for. People around the world no matter what religion came to her to seek guidance or help. She was born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in 1910, and she died on September 5, 1997. Now she is in the process of becoming a saint. She was raised in a devout catholic family in Albania.
At age twelve she heard her calling and wanted to become a nun. At age eighteen she went and joined the Sisters of Loreto. After months of training in Dublin she was sent to go be a teacher in St. Mary’s High School in Calcutta, India, but Mother Teresa began to realize that Calcutta was impoverished and needed care and support. She got permission from her superiors to leave the school and focus on the needy. Even though Mother Teresa did not have much money to spend she set up a school for the kids who lived in the “slums”, or areas of major poverty.
Eventually, she started her own order called “The Missionaries of Charity”. Throughout the rest of her life she dedicated it to helping the needy and poor. She exhibited a sense of kindness that money people have not reached. Mother Teresa ended up receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She was the true example of “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will be called children of God. ” `Mother Teresa has a lesson that most people in the world need to realize.
She exemplified the idea of love. People in the world today believe that they know a sense of love. Love is not just a romantic link between people, but love, especially Christian love, is compassion towards everyone you meet, especially strangers. Jesus even said “Love one another as I have loved you.
You need to love everyone and show compassion to them with no doubt. Also, you must not be selfish. Mother Teresa saw the needy and gave up living an easy life of teaching so she could help the poor. She is the prime example of helping people. Just because you don’t know someone does not mean they are any less special or important. Because of her undying selflessness she helped people without a doubt.
Whatever she could do to support someone in their time of need, she was there. Whether it was being supportive or teaching, Mother Teresa found a way to comfort those who needed it.The lessons of love and selflessness Mother Teresa taught during her time of living. Today’s society needs to learn this lesson and appreciate each other. We need to stop the hate and stop thinking about the idea of “What’s in it for me? ” or “How do I benefit? ” Once we all care for each other and see even strangers as important, we can have a better sense of happiness. There are probably thousands of people trying to search for true happiness when it’s under their noses.
Helping people out can lead to a happiness that is rarely felt. Mother Teresa was a prime example. She was always smiling no matter where she was.
