The Spanish, having fire arms and horses, things that the Incas had never seen before, were able to take Atahualpa prisoner and conquer the Incas.

Atahualpa tried to bargain with the Spanish but failed and in the end they killed him by strangulation. Since the Spanish believed that mummification was sacrilege they had to have a proper Christian burial. Atahualpa and other mummies were eventually transferred and buried in Lima.
