Our names are Curtis Buchan and Lachlan Jones, 16 year old boys from Sydney, Australia and we are writing to convince you that our logo would be the best choice to use for the up and coming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. We believe that our logo is of a high standard and we truly believe you should select our logo above any other. The reason why we believe you should select our logo is because it has a strong relationship with the history and the geographical location of Rio, Brazil.

The Europeans first encountered Guanabara Bay on January 1st, 1502, by a Portuguese explorer Gasper De Lemos, the Europeans were strong Catholics, which evidently explains Brazil’s religious views of Catholicism. This is represented with the famous statue of Cristo Redentor (known today as Christ the Redeemer). The city of Rio De Janeiro was properly founded by the Portuguese on March 1st, 1565 and was named Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro, in honour of St. Sebastian, the namesake of the Portuguese monarch D.

Sebastiao. The geographical location of Rio makes it a place of interest for people of Australia due to the humidity and heat of Rio’s location near the equator. Due to these features, Rio is a perfect location for swimming, surfing and all-outdoor activities, which not only are sports of the Olympics, but also favourite past times of the people of Rio. Our Logo relates to the people and the culture of Rio de Janeiro in many significant ways.

Our logo consists of the colours of the Brazilian flag, with the state flag of Rio de Janeiro on the left and a picture of the ever so famous statue of the Cristo Redentor. All three of these are significant symbols of Rio. The country flag represents the nation as a whole, being united as one. The flag of the state of Rio has the religious St. Andrew’s cross in the centre, which has a strong connection with the religious people in the country. On the crossing of the band and the bar, the state flag also has the city’s coat of arms.

The blue and white of the flag symbolize the Portuguese origin of the city, as they are the traditional colours of the Portuguese. The colour red on the flag of Rio de Janeiro symbolizes the blood shed by Saint Sebastian. Of course we have included the Olympic rings to reflect the spirit of the Olympic Games. We strongly believe that our logo would be successful in becoming internationally recognised because it is a simple logo with great colours and is easy to recognise. It has the Brazilian flag in the background and the Cristo Redentor which are two extremely recognised symbols within Brazil and worldwide.

People worldwide will be able to recognise the symbol and understand that it represents Rio, Brazil. In conclusion, we believe that our created logo is the best logo of choice due to its originality, colour and representation of Rio and its people. Our logo will be remembered not just for the 2016 Rio Olympics but with countries worldwide and we trust you will strongly consider using our logo for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. We graciously thank you for your time in reading this letter.
