Jesus and the Quran both state several characteristics about God/Allah’s demands for the human race.
They are similar in that, the book and Jesus both claim that if one asks, one shall receive from God, and those who follow God, will receive a great reward for eternal life. However, Jesus and the Quran differ in that, Jesus describes how to treat one’s enemies and those who don’t follow God, the Quran however does not. Both the Quran and Jesus claim that if one is a follower of the Lord, one will receive everything one could possibly need, and live a satisfactory life. If one is in need and is a true believer, therefore asking God for help, one will receive the help and be blessed. And if a person is in need of God, but can’t find Him, God will provide someone or something so that person can seek Him.
According to Jesus’ Moral and Ethical Teachings, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Jesus, 228)Here, Jesus says that one will receive the help if asked for it, but not out of greed. If a person were to pray to God out of greed, anger or shame, he or she won’t receive his or her wishes. Similarly to the Quran, it states, “For your Lord will certainly give you, and you will be content.”(Quran, 263) If one is a follower and believer of Allah, that person will receive everything that one could ever need. Jesus and the Quran both claim this similar moral because, as with any religion, if one were to follow their god, that person will earn a satisfactory life and that same god will provide for that person.
Jesus and the Quran also share the similarity that those who follow the Lord will receive great reward for eternity. Jesus claims, “Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven…” (Jesus, 228)In this passage, Jesus is saying that if people persecute and mock one for his or her beliefs and Christian values, don’t become angered, for one will be rewarded by God in the end. In the same aspect to what Jesus states, the Quran says, “Verily men and women who have come to submission… and those men and women who remember God a great deal, for God has forgiveness and great reward.” (Quran, 263) In this short passage, this book claims that those who follow Allah and His teachings, and obey His demands, will earn forgiveness and a great reward in the end: to live with God for the rest of eternity. Also, “O you who believe, remember God a great deal, And sing His praises morning and evening.
It is He who sends His blessings on you…” (Quran, 263) What the Quran means is that God will bless those who follow Him. Those that praise Him thoroughly and remember Him everyday will be rewarded. Both with Islam and Christianity, along with other religions, their god will always provide a reward for its follower. In Christianity and Islam, God provides eternal life with Him, in Heaven.
Both writings have similar messages, but simply convey the same message using different words. In this instant no one is better than the other. The Quran’s teachings and what Jesus has to say differs when it comes to those who don’t follow God and one’s enemies. Jesus says, “love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you…” (Jesus, 228) Jesus proclaims that one should not hate their enemies and non-believers.
If a person continues to love and be nice to those one doesn’t like, that person will continue to be a child of God, and will one day join Him in Heaven. However, when it comes to the beliefs of the Quran, the book makes the morals seem like one should avoid their enemies, and not continue to love or help them. “No believing men and women have any choice in a matter after God and His Apostle have decided it. Whoever disobeys God and His Apostle has clearly lost the way and gone astray…” (Quran, 263).The Quran’s words convey a message that there is no hope for those who don’t believe in God.
Unlike the Quran, Jesus says that people can pray for those who are lost, and one can pray to find God if he/she is on the wrong path. But, the Quran makes it out to seem that those who are on the wrong path will always be on the wrong path. In contrast, Jesus says, it is more helpful to pray and be nice to one, than it is to hate an enemy. The religion of Islam is similar to Christianity. Both are monotheistic and they both share similar morals and ethical teachings.
However, Christianity seems less strict than Islam, and more hopeful for the followers. Islam and Christianity both claim that great rewards will be provided for their followers and the believers will have everything given to them by God. But Christianity is more lenient for those who don’t follow and provide more help for them. Islam seems like it shuts doors to those who don’t follow God and His teachings.
The Quran and Jesus may have very similar views, because people need faith and a belief in a higher power to get them through times of hardship. The similarities between the two different belief systems is vast, they present similar ideas, but in different ways. In retrospect, all religions are related in one way or another. Think of it in this way, we all have social norms that we must live by such as, it is not socially accepted to walk naked in public. Why can’t this same principle be applied to religion? The basic views of religion all follow the same principles.
It’s the little details that separate one religion from another, just the same with social guidelines.Janae SchultzGened 110.16Jesus and the Quran
