The rain fell down like tiny stones upon the weathered roof.
It’s a gentle shower just now but the forecast said it is to get worse. The rain was making the atmosphere even darker and stuffier than usual. Save this. It is a normal Saturday night and as usual parents are out for some “time to themselves” I don’t have any brothers or sisters and I’m not aloud out because of the weather, so I’m left in myself for the night. My parents have left me in with a huge list of chores to do, none which I am very excited about.
I have finally completed the last of them and I finished it off by bringing the mail up from the mail box, I am running down to the mailbox through the rain I noticed the rain got heavier. I heard a rumble of thunder in the distance. I hurried back inside and locked the door. It was strange now that I had nothing to do so I decided to take a shower and just relax for the remainder of the night.
As I stepped into the bathroom I felt a harsh breeze slap me in the face, I realized I left the window open when I was cleaning it.As I shut the window I saw that fog had condensed on the mirror and there were some sort of strange smudges cutting through the fog. I thought they looked almost like claw marks but reason took over me and told me that they were marks from the water droplets had smudged down the mirror. I took my shower and dried off without a second thought. As I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen to make some dinner, I saw that the door was unlocked.
I was surprised as I clearly remember locking it when I came in from getting the mail and if I did in fact lock it nothing could have came in… did something get out?No, no my mind is playing tricks on me I must have not locked it in the first place. My heart rate slowed as I relocked the door (making sure I actually did it this time) and I went back to the kitchen. While my noodles soaked in boiling water, I gazed out the large old window at the told of my table. The gentle shower is now heavy rain and the wind is picking up, I hear the TV that is in the room blare out an alert for a severe thunderstorm. I know I am not going to have any sleep tonight as the frequent flashing of lighting and the constant roar of thunder always seemed to keep me up.
The timer I set for the noodle went off and brought me back from my thoughts. I ate my noodles in silence listing to the steadily increasing pounding of rain upon the window. I hear a sound of thunder and rain but I thought I heard something else. A sort of howling, shrieking noise. Once again reason have taking over me and me it was just the wind but it took longer to calm myself this time. It seemed many strange things had happened tonight.
I hurried the last of my meal down and cleaned up. It is now a gale force wind outside and the rain is torrential.Lighting lit up the sky, I see the trees swaying and bending in the wind. I looked at the time it was 12 o’clock. I decide to call it a night.
My mind is making everything scarier and I just wanted to end today. I walked around the house making one more time making sure everything is looked up. All is secure. As I was about to head upstairs I heard something on the window behind me. A scraping sound, almost like claws.
Its just branches, just branches I repeated to myself but I needed to turn around. Slowly I turned around. As my eyes met the window, I could have sworn I saw something dash out of my view. Branches flung up against the window as if something has just been there pulling them back to peer into the house. No, no my mind is just tired.
I need to go to bed. I wish my house wasn’t so big. I just want to get upstairs. My pace quickened and I rounded the final turn. My foot is just about to step on the first stair when I heard something behind me. I froze.
Behind me something pounded on the glass of the front door which is almost completely made out of glass. I stood there froze with fear.
