A good city to live in means a lot ,Especially after that modern technology which we have nowadays that can help us to make an optimum city although can destroy the nature if it’s used in the wrong direction and drive us totally to a bad polluted city to live in. In short notes I will try to write a summary about an optimum city to live in.
Sure the location and the nature of the city plays important role to reach that perfect city to live in, from my point of view for human nature and health I suppose that the Green city is the ideal place to live in, Green city includes many branches starting by facts important for human health as air quality, cleanness and clean drinking water moving to facts affect human life and take away his stress of regular working life as green facts including parks and how far is each green area from every home, green boundaries, trees and official public beaches which is maintained to a high environmental standards, Integrate the green and blue spaces creates perfect public places for inhabitants and very friendly area for relaxing, walking or running and other entertainments as much as it helps for sharing and communication between the people which is really great for livability. Also there are many important facts affecting the human comfort and let them live peacefully as the well connected city really have a direct effect to each person in his daily life, A good transportation hub makes every inhabitant feels comfortable in his daily life. Also the transportation and well connected city not only including the buses, metros, trams etc. but also offering the people green bikes and pedestrian streets is a great thing for livability and for reducing carbon emissions Sure that can reach the optimization if the city offers all the livable conditions within a short walking or biking distance from each home.Other facts which make the inhabitants feel secure and safe are having good police and ambulances, firemen in any part of the city I want to spot the light on one aspect of livability which is river surroundings or buildings facing the river, I would like to discuss it with 2 examples. As my hometown is Cairo in Egypt we have the Nile River there and now I’m living in Krakow and there is the Vistula River here.
I would like to spot the differences and show which is better for livability from my point of view First the nature of the 2 rivers is different as in Cairo the Nile river is very wide and straight without any curves, the Vistula river is not that wide as the Nile and it has curves not just straight.Second the urban context around Vistula River is full of green areas, bike, pedestrian paths and banks. Also you can see clear view to the river without any annoying high buildings. As well the normal car streets are separated far away from the very nearby area to the river which made the river facing very friendly public area for the people to enjoy that crucial nature of the river which they’ve got here in Krakow by lots of entertainments as walking, biking, running, communicating rest on banks, laying under the sun etc. and that’s what I call integration of green and blue spaces.
Although Cairo has a really beautiful wide natural river but somehow its surroundings are misused in many parts of the city. Some places have a lot of greeneries, pedestrian paths and cafes faces a very beautiful view of the Nile but as Cairo is the capital and Egypt’s mega city the Nile river considered as an attractive place and view for high buildings and towers as hotels and multinational companies also high luxurious residential buildings especially in the most attractive parts in the middle of the city facing the beautiful view of the river but they didn’t give importance to make any public green areas or pedestrian paths in front of that high buildings as well as the streets are located directly facing the river which is in my opinion bad urban decision for this particular land use facing the river as that resulted noise and air pollution instead of a friendly healthy public place using beautiful natural River for all inhabitants. Also those high buildings facing the River did cut its beautiful view so you cannot even know that there is such a huge River exists unless you are in the street which is facing it as there isn't open space around it.That resulted that in most of the parts in Cairo you can only enjoy the perfect view of the Nile in the luxurious cafes and towers facing it so it isn’t that beauty public place for every inhabitant anymore.
There are some small cities far from Cairo Face River like Menya or Aswan it’s a bit better as there aren’t high buildings facing the river and there are more greeneries, open spaces facing the rivers but still not very well organized for such a crucial nature value. In my point of view the urban decision weren’t very successful in Egypt in how they face such a crucial nature, but in Krakow although the river isn’t very big compared to Nile but from the way how they used it made it very beautiful and played very important role in the city public space.
