Fiestas in the Philippines are held to celebrate a patron saint or to mark the passage of the seasons, depending on which part of the country you're in.

The fiesta is part and parcel of Filipino culture. Each city and barangay has at least one local festival of its own, usually on the feast of its patron saint. The roots of Philippine fiestas go back to before the Spanish conquistadores arrived in the 1500s. In the old animistic culture, regular ritual offerings were made to placate the gods, and these offerings evolved into the fiestas we know today. A wonderful fiesta season means good luck for the rest of the year.

For individual Filipinos, fiestas can be a way of supplicating the heavens or to make amends for past wrongs. In one place, penitents lash themselves with whips; in another, childless women dance on the streets hoping for the blessing of a child. Every town and city in the Philippines has a fiesta of its own; whatever time of the year it is, there's sure to be a fiesta going on somewhere! Philippine kinship uses the Generational system (see Kinship terminology) to define family. Within common typologies, the Philippine system is one of the most simple classificatory systems of kinship compared to the complex U. S. kinship system (see Cousin).

The literal genetic relationship, or whether the person being addressed is in the actual bloodline or not, is often overridden by the desire to show proper respect that is due in the Philippine culture to age and the nature of the relationship, which are considered more important. Kasalan is the Filipino word for "wedding",[1] while its root word – kasal – means "marriage". [2] The present-day character of marriages and weddings in the Philippines were primarily influenced by the permutation of native, Christian, Catholic,Protestant, Spanish,[1] and American models.

The same is said for negative thoughts. Releasing your negative thoughts by vocalizing them allows the release of the negative energy you are carrying, into the smoke, where it dissipates. Do the same for positive thoughts.

By vocalizing our positive thoughts, positive energy is carried by the smoke and released into the universe.
