Etienne-Louis Boullee is considered a French neoclassic architect of the 17th century. As a visionary artist, he impart the influences of French architects by combining the Greek and Roman architectural elements through character elaboration of any designs giving more emphasis on what more a design may offer. Boullee’s work is not only a mere design but more than the design itself though some are impractical so that engineering capabilities during his time is insufficient. His work is considered revolutionary in such a way that his architectural designs are not only focusing on what was at present acceptable to the audience but he elaborates more of the accepted designs by incorporating Greek and Roman designs through columns, porticoes, pyramids and obelisks. Just like his design of The Hotel de Brunoy in Paris built in the year 1779 to appear like a Greek temple.
Therefore, Boullee build a character for every design he made thus it implies a method of revolutionizing the character of every design to make it more appealing and to have a change in the common acceptable grounds of architectural themes that may sound monotonous. Boullee’s architectural designs then are considered revolutionary because he develops a changing effect towards every character that he built upon any designs. He expanded more the themes incorporated in every architectural design that is acceptable and common during his time. He wanted to explore more of what was certain in every architectural design as presented in his time just like the Cenotaph to Newton where he wanted to portray the genius of Newton in his design making the sphere that resembles an eye which may become the window of Newton’s soul of science discovery. Therefore, Boullee become an epitome to revolutionize architectural designs without limitations.
