Vision, Mission, and Philosophy Instructor: Carrie Phillips ECE 312: Administration of Early Childhood Education Programs December 5, 2011 Vision, Mission, and Philosophy We know that you are wondering if we have the greatest early childhood center in the county. Most early childhood curriculum focus around components that have you asking some questions such as is this curriculum based on sound child development principles of how children grow and learn, (the NAEYC for example), is it consequential to the children in your care, does it embrace children with disabilities, is it flexible, and so on.All these questions are a major part of making a program that provides the finest care possible in all aspects of a child’s development. With that conveyed, in this thesis, I will describe our vision, mission, and philosophy here at Little Blessings Childcare Center. An explanation of how the proposed vision, mission, and philosophy are based on a child development theory.

An explanation of how the proposed vision, mission, and philosophy are based on my own core beliefs of early childhood education. Here at Little Blessings our vision is to provide a place of comfort and peace, while learning to work as a team and become unique individuals with a purpose for life. We wish to become a strong foundation were children and families are treasured, and where communities thrive on each other. Our mission is to provide excellent individualized inclusive services that empower children with the overall goal of promoting healthy development and escalating social proficiency of children of all ages, ethnicity, and income.

Little Blessings services will be family-friendly, following the faith that children develop in the framework of their family and culture. Parents are respected as the primary educationalist and nurturers of their children. Our philosophy is based on the conviction that each child has an instinctive exclusive talent which, when satisfied, is the individual's indispensable role of life and the community. It is their purpose in life. “To discover his or her unique talent, each child needs to be exposed to experiences pertaining to all components of life.Furthermore, we have designed manipulative materials for all subject areas, activities which children experience sensorial and interactively in a multi-age and multi-ethnic classroom setting.

Freedom within limits leads children to responsible choices, self-discipline, and self-respect. Self-respect leads to respect for others. ” (TIMI, 2011) You ask how we have come up with the proposed vision, mission, and philosophy of our center. We must look at the Maria Montessori child development theory briefly to do that.Montessori believed that scenes were the basis of scholastic growth and progress therefore the significance of schools and families working jointly was at the top of her list. “The teacher’s first duty is to watch over the environment, and this takes precedence over all the rest.

It is influence is indirect, but unless it is well done there will be no effective and permanent results of any kind, physical, intellectual or spiritual. ” –Maria Montessori. The well thought-out tone in the classroom is imperative to Montessori. For this is the link for the child to learn from the adult.

The classrooms must be set up for success by including child-sized materials, age appropriate activities and lack of restrictions of movement and of choice. The child must feel safe, so that he or she is free to explore all areas. The surroundings must be organized r and attractive so that the child feels free to work/play. Physical activity is what the child does or what most call play.

Montessori calls this work because this is where they create themselves as individuals and it is not just play. Having fun is their job, just as it was once ours. The task of the teacher is to bring together all aspects of their atmosphere so that each child learns profusely. “The development of the child is dependent therefore on the environment he is in, and the environment includes the parents. ” (TIMI, 2011) Montessori’s system is one of the most accepted and reliable curriculums. The proposed vision, mission, and philosophy are based on my own core beliefs of early childhood education as well.

I believe that learning starts at home where parents are the main educators. When a child care center works with parents it can be nothing but success. The child benefits in all areas of life, emotionally, physically, and academically In review, this thesis covered our vision, mission, and philosophy here at Little Blessings Childcare Center. An explanation of how the proposed vision, mission, and philosophy are based Montessori’s child development theory.

Finally yet importantly, an explanation of how the proposed vision, mission, and philosophy are based on my own core beliefs of early childhood education. References: Decker, C. , Decker, J. , Freeman, N. , and Knorpf, H.
