Socialism in today’s world of conflicting interests and self governed competition, does not seem to be a concept that can gain ground. Indeed when considering the definition of socialism, that is a single global hegemony and governance, one is forced to wonder how such a system would apply to the different cultures that prevail. However, there are many who claim that the capitalist economy models are the real reasons behind the problems that are faced around the world, and the solution lies in establishing a socialist structure. Einstein, 1949)Capitalism, the arguers state is a fancy word for taking away what is rightfully some one’s own through complex legal measures and cleverly crafted rules. In this regard, the total good for people is left far behind and the individual agendas become the main ground of working.
Capitalism, according to the opposition is creating more complications in the relations between various nations, and instead of considering the benefit of the entire human race, the monopoly of considering a handful of people is underway. (Einstein, 1949)But Einstein was only a hand few of those who held some authority over this matter and had the resources to make this fact known. Many communists however hold the same views and are constantly engaged in winning the battle for socialism. They believe that the socialist system can bring end to all the problems that face the world today, and especially the American system. the advantages of socialism include 1.
“A life free of exploitation, insecurity, poverty; an end to unemployment, hunger and homelessness. 2. An end to racism, national oppression, anti-Semitism, all forms of discrimination, prejudice and bigotry. An end to the unequal status of women. 3. Renewal and extension of democracy; an end to the rule of corporate America and private ownership of the wealth of our nation.
Creation of a truly humane and rationally planned society that will stimulate the fullest flowering of the human personality, creativity and talent. ” (Hall, 1996) Socialism is a concept that is based on the public and the welfare of the public only. In this regard, the various energy and natural resources become a public commodity and not the owner ship of a selected few.Since all are given their fair share, the economy benefits more, and the various social services also thrive.
Socialist system allows inclusion of all who are in the system in every facet of life. it provides for every one according to everyone’s caliber, and does not deny the basic rights to any one. The lack of such values in the capitalism structure leads to the integration of power among a few hands, while the rest of the system deteriorates. (Hall, 1996) But if socialism is the key to all problems, then the problems in France regarding hiring of employees would not be taking place at all.A socialist country, France recently signed a bill that allowed for more opportunities to the youth.
(Prager, 2006) The unemployment rate in France is high, and many of the company policies make the executives hire people with more experience in their work staff. While the bill was indeed a method to help hire more young people, the reaction has been considerably harsh. Analysts claim that the socialist structure in France is responsible for the lazy and irresponsible behavior that the French youth now display. It in fact compares the efficacy of the capitalist system of America, where there is more social good achieved than in France. The question here that arises is that who is right, and who is wrong. If socialist structure is indeed the best method, then how come it is creating such uproar in the socialist state of France.
(Prager, 2006) Supporters of capitalism put forward the example of Soviet Union, which was a socialist country. Again the concept of responsibility among the workers is an important factor. While in the socialist review, the person does not have to work at all, in capitalist market, only those who work hard can hope to survive. America therefore is far different form socialist systems, where every thing a person wishes to own must be bought by self.Mostly it is the loan systems that are utilized. (Lunt, 2008) One must understand what socialism has to answer however.
In today’s world, the concept of socialism is dying fast. There are many reasons behind it. First and foremost, the competition at the global level has become so intense that in order to survive, every country must learn to progress itself, and for that no one can sit idle. (Socilism, 2008) Socialism does not have very different ideas, that is it also aims to improve the economic conditions of the society, but focuses on the working classes.
This in capitalist societies is a concept that is declining fast, but still is providing the desired result of keeping the economy moving. Some of the common examples and systems of socialism such as of Marx, are very important in understanding the concepts of development of socialism. Socialism is aimed at creating an ideal welfare state, where no rights would be jeapordized. (Socialism, 2008) Since its inception, the concept has gripped the mind of many people who have strongly supported the concept of socialism, stating that it is the only way to end all social evils. Many took up creative methods to define and introduce socialism.
For example, the novel of Robert Tressel was among the most controversial issues when it was introduced in the market. This novel significantly portrayed all the aspects of socialism and how they would be applicable in the society. this novel was a fight against capitalism and caused a massive change of minds during its time. (Smith, 2006) Socialism was an attempt away from individualism that has become so much the part of the cultures nowadays. The whole concept of socialism has been derived from capitalism. The arguers of capitalism claimed it one of the most selfish systems created, and claimed that this system was exploiting and dehumanizing at the extreme.
The two aims in the socialist system included envy and self sacrifice. (Thompson, 1993) However, capitalism cannot be put aside as the system that is fully manipulative. For despite the weakness in the system, it is the only system where the countries have been able to survive. In many ways it is a moral and just system, because it puts responsibility on the shoulders of the people themselves, and that each person will suffer the consequences of his or her own persuits.Since business and trade are common facets of capitalism, it is only natural that people will engage in activities that are voluntary, and done through mutual consent.
The culture however, can form two types of people, ones who are industrious and honest, and those who are corrupt. It is the corrupt ones who can take away the rights of the poor and this is a sad fact that is so prevalent in today’s world. Capitalism however, punishes the wrongdoers and supports those who help advance the system; therefore, in many ways it can be a system that keeps people under control regarding their obligations and their rights.Capitalism is one of the key sources that drive the economies towards perfection, since every individual has to work harder to survive in the economy. In the socialist setup, such an obligation is not placed on the people, which makes them negligent and disinterested in working for the benefit of self or for the others.
The overall welfare system crumbles under this neglect. The only obligations that the people under socialist rule feel they have is they have to pay taxes. (Thompson, 1993)Socialism therefore can be summarized as an idealistic concept that in the world of today may not provide the necessary elements that are required for a nation to survive. The current world situation is a challenge regarding market hold, dominance and power. In this aspect, the country which is able to provide the most is the one more likely to win and succeed.
A socialist system lacks the kind of direction that is so essential to carry out the progression of a country in such a competitive situation, and therefore, there are even lesser progressive developments that take place in the system. While the welfare of the state is an essential part of the socialist system, many of the modern capitalist systems have also incorporated some of these elements in to the current system. For example, Americans are able to carry out more welfare services than France or Russians. This effect is due to the collective responsibility that the people feel towards the community and not depending on the other to take the initiative. Through various incentives of the government, the people are more interested in providing the community more and giving back to the community what they have taken.Socialism in the current culture is in many ways the thing of the past.
This is because while there have been many supporters for the notion, not many were able to devise a model that was able to modify itself in the face of its deficiencies. The capitalist structure is made to learn from its mistakes and therefore is able to adapt itself from the various problems and economic pressures that take place. In this regard, the capitalist structure of governance is one of the most efficient systems that can help in the progression of the country where it is applied.Referencehttp://articles.webraydian.com/index.php
