Discrimination is something we see very often in today's society.

By saying discrimination, I mean the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things. This word is almost universally considered bad. However, the word itself is neutral. In fact, discrimination is often a very good thing. Education is a discrimination factor most of the time.

However, it's not a bad thing. For instance, by hiring a low education doctor than a higher education doctor, the hospital is actually increasing it's death rate, not only damaging it's own reputation but lives of innocent people too.Wang Bei (Ranked 9th in the 2005 Super Girl sing competition) was an example as she died in an accident during her plastic surgery caused by doctor negligence at a plastic surgery hospital in Wuhan. On the other side, this may cause low education people to have no jobs, widening the income gap of the country.

However, this can be resolved with government opening more job opportunities such as hiring them for new building projects. In personal relationships or marriage, discrimination is necessary as it is seen all the time based on the people they associate with.Ultimately a person discriminates and chooses one person over others to marry and start a family with, making discrimination one of the key factors in marriage. Not being able to discriminate would most likely cause a marriage to fail, like the marriage of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

On the other side, this leads to a most commonly discuss issue in the world, gay/lesbian marriage. Many of them were not treated equally such as jobs. Most companies would prefer to hire non-gay/lesbians compared to gays/lesbians.But, such cases are decreasing day by day with governments implanting laws to protect their rights.

Discrimination occurs economically too, also known as price discrimination. Price discrimination is necessary in today's society. One way to illustrate is price discrimination avoid congestions. If there was no price discrimination rush hour trains would be more overcrowded. Price discrimination gives an incentive for some people to go later in the day.

This means that those who have to travel at rush hour benefit from less congestion. On the flip flop, price discrimination may end up causing some consumers to pay a much higher price for a certain good. However, the government is actually trying to minimize such problems by coming up with laws such as price sealing. In light of the above, I agree that discrimination is a necessary evil in today's society as it is near impossible to live without discrimination as discrimination had actually helped the society today to progress with it's benefits.

Although discrimination brought along disadvantages, measures are actually been taken now to minimize it.
