1. Introduction: Agriculture plays an important role in economic development of Bangladesh. Poultry is one of the important subsectors of agriculture. Poultry is domesticated birds kept by humans for the purpose of producing eggs, meat, and/or feathers. Now a day, poultry is another growing industry in Bangladesh.
Chickens, ducks, quails and turkeys, pigeons are included in poultry. Chicken, quails and ducks are very popular in poultry business. Day by day, poultry becomes popular in the agricultural industry in our country.Therefore, proper costing and pricing can determine the effectiveness and success of poultry production and business and its contribution in the economic development of the country. Costing is the classifying, recording and appropriate allocation of expenditure for the determination of the costs of products or services; and for the presentation suitably of arranged data for purposes of control and guidance of management.
Costing is the process of determining the cost of doing something e.g. the cost of manufacturing/producing something, rendering a service or performing a function. The article manufactured, service rendered or function performed is known as the object of costing.We want to know the cost of doing something. We may, however, ourselves speaking of the cost of a product as an abbreviation for the cost of acquiring or manufacturing the products.
Costing is the system of determining the costs of product. This cost may be total or average cost. Poultry provides the second most widely eaten meat in the world, accounting for about 30% of meat production worldwide and also provides eggs. Many people of our country are depending for their earning on this industry. So, poultry industry has socio-economic impact in our country.
Now, Bangladesh government earns a large amount of tax from this industry.This industry is also employed a large number of unemployed people to improve their economic condition. There are also some limitations in evaluating the costing and pricing procedure of poultry industry in our county. Many people don’t know how to calculate cost and to determine price. Many people of our country are involved in this sector, so it is very important to do proper costing and pricing of poultry products.
2. Objectives:The objectives of the study are: * To evaluate the costing procedure in the poultry industry in Bangladesh. * To evaluate the pricing procedure in the poultry industry in Bangladesh. * To evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of costing and pricing of poultry products in the industry. * To suggest an easy and less expensive costing and pricing procedure.
3. Methodology: The methodology to be followed in collection of data from the relevant field, should be chosen by consulting relevant literature. The primary data will be collected in both Observation and Questionnaire Method. Data would be collected from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data would be derived by a field study. A foreign Company operating in Bangladesh namely Charoen Pokphand (Bangladesh) Company Limited would be observed and some other large and small companies and firms would also be observed.
Data will be collected also from annual report of the concerned organizations.4. Benefits: The study will help to find out the most appropriate guideline of costing and pricing of poultry products for the improvement of economic condition of the individual involved. It will also flush the weakness and loopholes of present costing and pricing system.
