This paper intends to look into three detention facilities/correction programs intended for juveniles. It also aims to pinpoint the similarities as well as the differences between them.

Detention Facility The first one that is to be discussed is that of King County Juvenile Detention (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ). King County Juvenile Detention is beneficial and enjoyable for the juveniles that are kept in the premises (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ).

It is so because of the following programs that it made available for the youthful individuals residing there: First of all is the health clinic (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ). The aforementioned is intended to keep the residents physically and mentally healthy through the medical screenings they are subjected to (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p.

). Furthermore, infirmary beds are made available as well in case a health dilemma is needed to be addressed (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ).

What’s good about it is that, if they can no longer handle the patient’s case, they can just get in touch with the “University of Washington School of Medicine for health care and behavioral health services” or they can always contact the “Juvenile Health Clinic” when cases of “sexually transmitted diseases/HIV”, or any other reproductive health-related dilemma arise (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ). Second, religious services is also available wherein Chaplains are present every day and they may be consulted upon by the youth residing there (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ).

Church services are also held during Sundays (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ). Third, a program exclusively intended for the females is also initiated by King County Juvenile Detention (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p.

). This program intends to boost the women’s “personal power”; ensure their safety; teach them girl culture; etc (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ). Fourth, there is also a program known as “Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous” to address the dilemmas of the youth that relates to drugs and alcohol (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n.

p. ).Fifth, a library is also opened for the juvenile (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p.

). This gives them the opportunity to learn and to keep their minds focused on more important things (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n. p. ). Last but not least, yoga and exercise are also encouraged to free the juveniles’ mind from negative thoughts and carry out deviant behaviors (Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, 2008, n.

p. ). Correction Program The second one that is to be discussed is the correction program of Everett Community Justice Center/Everett Field Unit (Department of Corrections, 2007. n. p.

).Their programs include the following: “1) Anger Management, which teaches the juvenile the effects of anger and then teaches them how to handle their negative emotion; 2) Mental Health Relapse, which informs them about mental conditions which will eventually stop them from engaging in high risk behaviors; 3) Advice to Parent, which encourages parents to become more understanding with their child’s situation; 4) Discussion of Women’s Issues; 5) Landscaping, which will the juvenile focus on doing things that are beneficial instead of engaging in deviant acts; 6) Employment Services, which will help the juvenile find and keep their jobs; 7) Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous; 8) Community Fellowship, which entails nourishment of the spirit/soul; and last but not least 9) Gardening (Department of Corrections, 2007. n. p. ). Another Detention Facility/Correction Program Last but not least in this list is the Spokane Community Justice Center wherein the programs included are the following: “1) Family Orientation, which is focused on the ways on how to support the juvenile who is later expected to go back to his or her community; 2) Strengthening Families; and 3) Advising Parents on how to deal with their child who became offenders of the law” (Department of Corrections, 2007.

n. p. ). Similarities of the ThreeAll three are only similar in terms of religious services (Department of Corrections, 2007. n. p.

). That is the only common denominator to all the three (Department of Corrections, 2007. n. p. ). However, King County Juvenile Detention is similar with Everett Community Justice Center/Everett Field Unit in terms of the following programs: 1) women empowerment activities; 2) Alcoholics Anonymous; 3) religious services (Department of Corrections, 2007.

n. p. ). Everett Community Justice Center/Everett Field Unit, on the other hand, is similar to Spokane Community Justice Center in terms of the following programs: 1) advice to parents; and 2) empowerment services (Department of Corrections, 2007. n.

p. ). Differences between the ThreeThe differences entail the following: 1) clinic is not available in Everett Community Justice Center/Everett Field Unit and in Spokane Community Justice Center, however, there is one available in King County Juvenile Detention; 2) anger management program is available in Everett Community Justice Center/Everett Field Unit but not in King County Juvenile Detention and Spokane Community Justice Center; and last but not least 3) family orientation/strengthening families programs are in Everett Community Justice Center/Everett Field Unit but not in King County Juvenile Detention and Spokane Community Justice Center (Department of Corrections, 2007. n. p.

).
