British colonialism affected Kenya in many ways: politically, socially, economically, and culturally.

Colonialism occurs when one nation takes control of another. There are many effects after colonialism has occurred and after the colonial rulers give up control. British colonialism affected Kenya politically. The borders British created affected Kenya by creating a mass of ethnic groups that shouldn’t be put together due to diversity.

(Document 2) The creation of borders clumped together ethnic groups which caused cultural differences.Cultural differences can lead up to tension since different ethnic groups can’t communicate due to different languages and beliefs. Kenya had no say in whether to be under control of the British or not. “A strange kind could not be our king and our land was our own. We had no battle, no one had fought us to take away our land as, in the past.

This land we had had from our fathers and our fathers’ father, who bought it. ” (Document 3) This quote states how the British just came in and took over control without letting Kenya have a say in anything.Kenya believed they owned all their land due to the fact that it was their fathers land and their fathers fathers land and so on. Kenya had elected councils and believed a monarchy government would not suit them.

Although there are many controversies about the bad affects of colonialism there are good. “Moreover, many westernized Africans saw colonialism in Africa as a progressive and civilizing force which, despite its many abuses, had eliminated slavery, human sacrifice, and internecine warfare, while providing opportunities for Africans. (Document 4)By being colonized Kenya was enabled many things. This provided Africans with better opportunities. Kenya was socially affected by British colonialism.

Document 9 can be taken in two ways: equally treated or racist. “This seemed a little paradise, a paradise where children all walks of life and different religious faiths could work together without any consciousness. ” Nijoroge states that quote telling that he feels being any race or “all walks of life” can be treated equally without a problem. This quote on the other hand “But he believed that the best, the really excellent, could only come from the white man.

” Nijoroge tells how the teacher discriminates any other race than white, since he feels that white only brings the excellence. Document 10 shows how different ethnicities are treated unequally. The statistics in this document prove how a certain race determines your quality of an education. This graph in Document 10 distributes Europeans, Asians, Arabs and Africans education situations.

Europeans take the highest in secondary educations 37% and also 83 pounds per student expenditure. Africans take the lowest with 1% receiving secondary educations and 4 pounds per student expenditure. These statistics show the unfairness of being a different race. Economically takes another affect on colonialism in Kenya.

Document 12 is a graph showing the average earnings in agriculture and public services of Europeans, Asians, and Africans. In both graphs Europeans are most successful since they are colonized by the British.Plus Europeans have better opportunities for a higher education than Asians or Africans. Document 11 shows a graph with increasing railroad sightings over the time period of 1908 to 1968. British colonizing Kenya helped them since railroads can be used to transport goods from place to place. Finally culture takes affect on colonialism in Kenya.

Beliefs and religions of Kenya before colonization has been expressed in an unpractical way, in Document 6. “Murder is atoned by a fine. “Marriage is regarded as a sale, and strict fidelity is neither expected nor practiced” (Document 6).Document 7 disproves document 6 since British wants to change the way religion is practiced even though document 6 shows the way religions are practiced in Kenya are practical.

Document 8 expresses how culture affects colonialism in Kenya by distributing the increasing in Roman Catholic and Protestant religions and the decline in Hinduism and Indigenous beliefs from the years 1962 to 2002. Many affects can be concluded on colonialism in Kenya. All of these affects will still arise even after the ruler has lost control of Kenya, leading Kenya to always have these affects.
