When you turn 18 you have many responsibilities and privileges in the United States. You are allowed to vote, get married adopt a child. You are now considered an adult.
There are expectations that are now required of you. In adulthood you are expected to act a certain way. You are expected to make decisions and carry out your responsibilities that can and will affect you life. However our cultures approach to childhood is hypocritical and has damaged the adulthood of some people as a cause and effect.
When a person turns 18 there are advantages as well as disadvantages. You are financially responsible for yourself and can vote for the President of the United States of America. You can be enlisted in the army and fight for our country. However you cannot but liquor until you are 21 because they feel people under the age of 21 are immature.
Some argue that the mind is not developed completely until you are 21. Being 18 does not make you immature. We should change how we view our adults.Just because you have been on earth a few more years longer does not make you smarter than me or more of an adult than I am or some other people in the world.
The perspectives of adults are hypocritical in the United States. I can fight for our country with the possibility of being killed but cannot buy liquor. I can vote for someone who has control over our country but cannot buy liquor. There are many other privileges that are given to 18 years as an adult and they carry out their responsibility well.
Ultimately once you turn 18 society considers you an adult, so why not let that adult make a decision and not be penalized for it.
