It is known to us that during many years, having juvenile justice had been one of the major issues which concerns the youth whom have violated the laws.
Although most of the laws which are known to the public are addressing the issues however, there are still loop holes for the reason that teenagers are not suited with these types of sentences. Due to this situation, Jeffrey Butts tackles the situation regarding juvenile justice and presents to his readers the possibility of different situations with regards to having or not having a juvenile justice.Butts questioned the situation regarding the need for having juvenile justice and due to the argument that young people still does not have the right mind to judge their actions. Therefore, making them innocent of what they have done against the government. Butts stated that if this is the case, then the juvenile justice should be removed because making the young people suffer for the crimes they committed within a prison cell filed with adults will be more unjust for their well being. In addition, Butts also discussed the past actions in which are done with justice delinquency systems in United States.
The system is not as critical as it needed to be which then makes the young people in the jails helpless of the actions the law has for them. (Butts, 2000) In critiquing the article, it could be seen that the concern of Butts regarding the issues of juvenile justice delinquency. In my own perspective the article rightfully explained the issues with regards to justice delinquency. I do agree that this issue is a concern for many people because as we all know, the teenagers of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, they should be taken care of and given most attention because they are people who will make or break the future of this country. It is also true that during the past few years, there had been increasing numbers of delinquency in the United States which causes and alarm for many of the entities who are involved with this type of situation.
Various welfare agencies and individuals who shows concern for this type of problems had been present in the community do actions in order to fix the problem with regards to justice delinquency. But still, it is not enough to make the lives of these young people any easier. Most of the time, these young people are not given enough attention and enough rights to protect themselves from the violence and harsh conditions of cases and adult prisons. (Butts, 2000) In the whole article written by Butts, it could be analyzed that he had not written any suggestions in order for his readers to see another type of situation for the youth who had been sentenced.
In my own view point, it would be best for the young people who have cases to be brought in a home in which they will also meet the same people as they are. I do suggest that in the home which they are taken must provide them certain amount of knowledge or education to provide them a better future when they return to their communities. There should be academic learning as well as societal enlightenment to make them realize that their actions were inaccurate and could affect many people. The program must also raise the concern of these teenagers so they will be able to absorb their learning from the home and incorporate it with their daily lives. Given that they might be from a violent and poor community, they should be taught about peace and what it means to be an individual who hand in hand cooperates with the government and the nation.
(Butts, 2000) In conclusion, there is a great possibility that we can do without a juvenile justice if there is an alternative for these young people. It would not be helpful if they are let go easily because there is a great possibility that they will repeat what they have done. If there are homes and programs that will directly adopt these young people, they would not need to be in the adult prison which could totally devastate their personalities as well as their attitude towards life and people. But still we should be reminded about this quote: “Equal justice under the law. That is a great goal.
But that goal has not been realized”
