This research examines how men and women communicate using body language and why does it matter. Studies from various psychological and medical centers have shown that your body moves can tell more about someone than the words he or she speaks. People never realize the movements they make and how the people around him or her would interpret those moves. Lately, body language has been a topic very important psychologically and how it affects somebody emotionally and in other areas.
Through medical articles and statistics, this research would explain how the use of body language matters, especially for women, in different areas of their life.Body Language: What is the latest research? Lately, body language has been an interesting topic among the population, especially in pop magazines; however, such type of magazines may not give accurate information or scientific facts, therefore, this research will demonstrate some facts about the topic, which are accurate… Body language is a form of non-verbal communication consisting of various sections: body posture, gestures, facial expressions, and eye movements. The human race has the ability to send and interpret such signals almost entirely subconsciously (Andersen, Peter, 2007). Body language may indicate aggression, attentiveness, boredom, relaxed state, pleasure, amusement, and intoxication, among many other cues” (Brehove, Aaron, 2011). The study of body movement and expression is known as kinesics. Physical expressions can unveil many things about the individual that is using them (Brehove, Aaron, 2011).
Each person’s movements and positions have different significance; for example, when interacting with someone else, crossing the arms across the chest, can indicate that the person is putting up an unconscious barrier in between. Moreover, Eye contact can indicate a positive thought of what is being listened; on the other hand, lack of eye contact can depict negativity, but then people with anxiety disorders are frequently unable to make eye contact, so misunderstandings can take place J. K. Burgoon, L. K.
Guerrero, & K. Floyd, (2011) Another implication for body language is nonverbal communication, which involves sight, sound, smell, touch, kinesthetic channel or taste. Some properties of nonverbal communication re: primarily communicate emotions, attitudes, cues substitute for contradict, emphasized or regulate verbal message, cues are often ambiguous, cues are more reliable, cues are culture bound, behavior always has communicative value, and communication is powerful (Martin S. Remland, 2009). Posture is crucial when identification of nonverbal communication takes place, says Freitas-Magalhaes, A. from the University Fernando Pessoa Press; it can measure the degree of attention that a participant has to his o her communicators.
Now, gestures have a significant meaning, too, when trying to read someone’s body language; a gesture is a nonverbal bodily movement that intends to express meaning, such as winking, nodding, or rolling one’s eyes. Given that every culture has different traditions, some gestures can be misinterpret, so before trying to analyze someone’s movements, his or her culture has to be known. (Freitas-Magalhaes, A. , 2006) Haptics is the study of touching as nonverbal communication.
It refers to how people and animals communicate via touching. Contact among humans implicates hand-shaking, holding hands, kissing (cheek, lips, hand, etc. , back slapping, “high fives”, a pat on the shoulder, brushing an arm, and various more that implies touching one another. These behaviors may transmit intentions or feelings of a communicator.
The meaning is highly dependent upon each culture. (K. Floyd, L. K. Guerrero, 2006) Most of the time one’s face can indicate and express more than the words that are being told. The eyes are another variant of body language; eye contact, when two individuals look each other’s eyes at the same time, can express interest, attention, and involvement.
Eye contact and facial expressions can reveal important social and emotional information. K. Floyd, L. K. Guerrero, 2006) Body language or nonverbal communication has some functions it can express emotions, express interpersonal attitudes too, to accompany speech in managing the cues of interaction between speakers and listeners, self-presentation of one’s personality, and rituals (J.
K. Burgoon, L. K. Guerrero, & K. Floyd, (2011).
Like everything in life there is a good side and a bad side out of body language; the existence of some difficulties are that women are better at nonverbal communication than are men, so it’s tough to read the movements of men because they don’t express as women do.People that have relatively large difficulties with body language can pose significant challenges, especially in interpersonal relationships (J. K. Burgoon, L. K. Guerrero, & K.
Floyd, (2011). How to read body language? Every movement, gesture, position is significant while trying to read what a person is saying with her or his body. When someone holds his or her hands close to their face when they talk, generally, is a sign of insecurity. The same happens with men that have mustache or beard if they roll it with their hand or when someone fixes his or her hair, perhaps pushing or curling it behind their ear, it’s a sign of insecurity too. When trying to interpret body language, whoever is doing the interpretation must examine the relation of what is being said along with the movements (Karen Zimsen, 2009) The power to comprehend and use nonverbal communication is a mighty tool that will help anyone with this power connect with others, express what he or she really means, navigate challenging situations, and build better relationships at home and work (Jeanne Segal, Ph.
D. , Melinda Smith, M. A. , and Jaelline Jaffe, Ph. D. , 2011)In conclusion, body language has a great influence in one’s life, it is important to for each person to know what every movement means in order to cause a good impression and send the right message to the receptor.
It may not appear important to know about this topic but nowadays is a topic that is well known by the population of various countries.
