About my favourite artist- Banksy Banksy is a street artist from England. His real identity is not known, since its been hold under a big secret and only few people have had the change to meet him in real life. Meanwhile some people say that his real name should be Robert or Robin Banks and he was born in 1974, but there has been no official approvement of these facts.

Banksy’s parents are assured that theyr son is working as a painter and decorator. Banksy is most famous for his satirical street art and suversive epigrams, that hold distinctive dark humour and stencilling techique.Banksy started his graffity carrieer in Bristol underground scene, where during the big aerosol boom in late 80’s brought together many future street artists. His distincive style and stencilling technique was formed to reduce the time needed to apply picture to the wall.

Banksy's stencils feature striking and humorous images occasionally combined with slogans. Known for his contempt for the government in labeling graffiti as vandalism, Banksy displays his art on public surfaces such as walls and even going as far as to build physical prop pieces. The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist or anti-establishment. Subjects often include rats, apes, policemen, soldiers, children, and the elderly. One his painting, rat, is also painted on a wall in Tallinn’s old town.

One thing that makes Banksy different from any other vandal, who is just trying to leave his tag behind, is that Banksy uses his art as a tool. As tool to make change in society or just to make people think about his point a little longer.Banksy defines art as something that should be looked at in depth so the person that is looking at the art should look at it longer and in more detail. He has been drawing in the most dangerous places in whole word, for example in August 2005, Banksy painted nine images on the Israeli West Bank barrier, including an image of a ladder going up and over the wall and an image of children digging a hole through the wall. He has also placed his works into world famous art galleries, just to see how long they’re going to stay there.

Usually his works stay up for about week, but once Banksy's version of a primitive cave painting depicting a human figure hunting wildlife whilst pushing a shopping trolley was hung in gallery 49 of the British Museum, London. Upon discovery, they added it to their permanent collection. Banksy is not only a street artist. Besides that, he has several books, that he has either wrote himslef or have given witty quotes into them: * "Banging Your Head Against A Brick Wall" * "Existencilism" * "Cut it Out" "Wall and Piece" There are also two other books, from different authors, that talk about Banksy’s work: * Martin Bull, "Banksy Locations and Tours: A Collection of Graffiti Locations and Photographs in London" (2007). * Steve Wright, "Banksy's Bristol: Home Sweet Home" (2007). Banksy is also a film director.

His first film, Exit Through the Gift Shop, billed as "the world's first street art disaster movie," made its debut at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. The film was released in the UK on 5 March 2010.In January 2011, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary for the film. Although im not a big fan of street art, since its mostly vandalism done by unintelligent „wannabees“, who have that desperate urge to leave theyr tag to every corner, I feel that Banksy is somehow different. He really has something to say with his pictures and actions. There are certanin reasons why he is drawing certain thing to certain places.

His works are complexed and sophisticated and they carry a message. Kertti Merimaa Prima Sotsiaal
