“Allah! There is no god but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him.
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi (Throne) extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Supreme. ” Ayat ul Kursi (Throne Verse) is the 255th verse of the second chapter of Holy Quran.
This verse is the most beautiful verse of Quran since it describes the greatness of Allah and His kingdom which has no boundaries and which extends even beyond human imagination. This verse is also known as Kursi or Throne verse because it talks about the Throne of Allah and that He is much capable of defending it and with out any doubt, He is the Supreme and Most High in glory. The significance of this verse has been proved through a number of Hadis (sayings of Prophet Muhammad). The Prophet Muhammad once said that “the one who recites this verse after every obligatory prayer, then death is the only thing preventing him from entering into paradise. ” In another Hadis, the Prophet Muhammad said “the one who recites Ayat ul Kursi before falling asleep, Allah gives protection to his home and his family till he wakes up. ” By reciting Ayat ul Kursi, we submit to the Greatness and Supremeness of Allah.
This verse also reminds us that Allah is not like his creatures which requires sleep and rest rather He is one and only and that there is nothing like Him.
