The Olympic Games is an opportunity for athletes from different countries to come together every four years. Olympism is a philosophy of life, which amplifies the Olympic values and movement which aims to create a peaceful world through the participation of sport, practised in the Olympic Spirit without any kind of discrimination. It emphasises the importance of non-discrimination, sustainability, humanism, universality, solidarity and alliance between sport, education and culture.

Understanding Olympism has allowed me to find joy and triumph in effort I made, I have realised my trainings and commitment were not just obscure struggle to win in a tournament, rather a struggle to understand the purpose of sport and the values it has on everyone’s life. Sport has social and moral ethical values. Through sport, children, adolescences and adults come to understand that without fair play, with discrimination, sport does not work and in a bigger picture, the society will suffer.Athletes learn team work and the importance of sportsmanship, inclusiveness and fairness, allowing everyone to acquire mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship and solidarity. As the Olympic movement aimed, sport contributes to creating a peaceful world.

Olympism is embedded in every athlete who feels that their endless effort and commitment were just for a gold medal and a period of honour, but to realise that their efforts were not only for their ultimate goal but to be able to perceive the way of life based on the joy they found in effort.Ultimately, Olympism acknowledges the meaning of sport and the importance of it in our world. It refers not just to the elite athlete, but a guide for everyone, not just a way of life but the whole of life, not just competition and winning, but also the values of participation and cooperation and not just sport as an activity, but also as a formative and development influence.
