Each year in the United States, an estimated 70 million animals are maimed, blinded, scalded, force-fed chemicals, genetically manipulated, and otherwise hurt and killed. Animals have to suffer and risk their lives for the name of science, by private institutions, household product and cosmetics companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and scientific centers. Animal testing is wrong but yet it is still legal in the US. The EU, European Union, have recently banned pharmaceutical and cosmetic testing on animals.

There are many reasons why pharmaceutical animal testing should be banned and illegal. There has been argument for years between society and scientists that a drug reaction that an animal undergoes is quite different from how a human would react to the same drug. It is for this criticism that many medical practices and laboratories have changed the ways the experiment. “Ninety-five percent of medical schools across the U.

S. have completely replaced the use of animal laboratories in medical training with sophisticated human-patient simulators, virtual-reality systems, computer simulators, and supervised clinical experience.” (PeTA).This eliminates any complications from which animal testing would conduct.

It is strongly encouraged that animal testing labs should be replaced with non-animal alternatives. Animal testing generally cost a large sum of money for the company to maintain and experiment. Animals obviously have to be fed, housed, cared for, and then tested with an experimental substance. That’s no including how much the animals cost. Another thing that factors in is that these experiments take months and sometimes even years.

“Non-animal methods usually take less time to complete than the crude, archaic animal tests that they replace. In addition, they cost only a fraction of what animal experiments cost and are not affected by species differences that make applying test results to humans difficult or impossible. ” (PeTA). Proven more reliable and less expensive than animal tests, alternatives also see more humane. It is not also for these reasons that animal testing should be banned but also because countless of animals are killed and kept in captivity through pharmaceutical testing.

More than 100 million animals are killed each year in U. S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. These animals include mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and bird. Most of these animals we have at home as our loving pets.

Most of us couldn’t imagine ourselves without our animals. “81% regard their pets as full members of the family. ” (Peters).Take those pets, which are so-called family members, stuff them into a small metal cage and force them to live there last days being ejected with harmful chemicals.

Most people do not these factors into consideration. In animal testing, numerous animals are experimented on and then killed after their use. Others are injured and will still live the remainder of their lives in captivity. In 2013 all animal testing for cosmetics and pharmaceutical testing was banned in the European Union.

India has also drastically lowered its animal testing and continues to decrease. It is bad science, wasteful, and unethical to sentence 100 million thinking, feeling animals to life in a laboratory cage and intentionally cause them pain, loneliness, and fear. With all these key factors to animal testing, it is safe it say that pharmaceutical animal testing should be banned and illegal. Animals suffer and die every day in laboratories with little or no defense. The world doesn’t need another eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredient, drug for erectile dysfunction, or pesticide so desperately that it should come at the expense of animals’ lives.
