Should animals be used for research? Isn’t it animal cruelty? To test cosmetics, cleaners and other products, hundreds of thousands of animals are poisoned, blinded and killed every year. In circuses, animals are being tortured cruelly. This has been an argumentative issue for a long time. Some argue testing on some animals now will prevent lots of human suffering and save lives in the future.
Others say it is unethical and cruel. Still, everyone agrees that millions of animals are subjected to unbearable pain in labs. Also most of people agree with animals tortured cruelly in circuses, they take it as an entertainment for themselves. And that thousands of them die. Before 1986, only four states had felony animal cruelty laws.
Estimates say that between 14 and 70 million animals are used in experiments each year. It is impossible to know exactly how many animals are tested because US law does not require scientists report how many birds, reptiles or rodents they use. About 50% of animals used in cosmetics testing die within three weeks of the experiment. Snakes and lizards are skinned alive because of the belief that live flaying makes leather suppler.
Kid goats are boiled alive to make gloves.Animal testing is often ineffective in predicting how products will work on people. Some estimates say up to 92% of tests passed on animals failed when tried on humans. Moreover, animals should not be treated cruel.
People who see others treating animals cruelly, must report to their local shelter or animal control agency. If they do not report crimes, the animals will continue to be harmed. There are over 7 million homeless animals in the US. 7 million unwanted cats and dogs currently live in shelters. Even worse, half of them will be put to sleep.
Animals can suffer brain damage or death from heatstroke in just 15 minutes. Beating the heat is extra tough for dogs. You can help animals having a shelter to live, by convincing their family and friends to adopt an animal from a shelter. By adopting an animal you are giving it a second chance, while saving its life. You can also visit a local animal shelter and ask if they need any volunteers to help, feed and brush or walk dogs and cats.
Spread awareness of neutering and spraying. This not only increases an animal’s life, but it also helps keep unwanted dogs and cats out of shelters.Psychological studies have shown that people who inflict harm to animals just for pleasure are more likely to do so to humans too. In circuses many animals are treated very badly.
No animals wants or likes to ride cycle, stand upright on their head, jump through fire rings or balance on balls and so on. But animals in circuses have no choice other than doing so. Else they are tortured by the trainer. Trainers use hunter, whips or even electric pads to torture them in order to train the animals. This is a serious type of animal cruelty. Central government has banned dancing bears.
Dancing bears are also very cruelly tortured by Qualandars or madaris to teach them dance. The physical injuries are also done to them. Animals used in film making or cinematography are often treated badly. With no food given to eat they are exploited horribly for work.
In action scenes, animals are treated horribly. They often met with serious injuries which are also not treated. Many times animals die in these action scenes. Although there are laws to protect usage of animals in film making, but they are hardly enforced and followed by film makers.Birds are kept in cages.
Not only this, the cages are small, not well ventilated, and horribly unhygienic conditions. There are races and fight which are arranged for the entertainment of people. Example of this is cockfight, elephants fight and bull’s race. In cockfight the roosters are given alcohol to make them feisty. These cock fights are banned under the “prevention of cruelty to animals”. But then also many roosters are forced to fight till their death in almost all parts of the country.
The winners of one fight are again forced to fight in the next round. Each year, approximately 10,000 bulls die in bullfights. This is a serious type of animal cruelty where animals are forced to their death in very inhumane manner. Zoos are built to help animals and to give information to common people about the behaviour of these animals.
It is shocking to know that in zoos also animals are tortured very badly. These animals are often kept in small cages. These cage are hardly been cleaned. They are full of animal excreta. There are very less medical facilities available in the zoos. You have to take strict steps towards stopping animal cruelty.
Also, immediately launch a complaint against a person who is doing so to the nearest police station by writing down what you observed, such as; wounds on the body, areas of missing hair, extremely thin, starving animals, animals who have been hit by cars and have not received veterinary attention, animals who are kept outside without shelter in extreme weather conditions, an owner hitting an animal, animals kept in dirty conditions and so on. If you do not know where to go and complain, ask your local shelter or animal control agency for help. Your sincere efforts are very much needed to stop this.
