Amy Jade Winehouse was born in the Southgate area of north London on September 14, 1983. Her father was Mitchell Winehouse and mother Janis Winehouse, both from Russia. Amy also had an older brother named Alex. Many of her uncles on the mother's side of her family were professional jazz musicians. Amy herself was an English singer-songwriter known for her deep contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul, jazz, and reggae. Before her profession she attended Sylvia Young Theatre School, Susi Earnshaw Theatre School, BRIT School, Ashmole Academy, Southgate School.
Amy received her first guitar when she was 13 and began writing music a year later. Then she began working for a living as an entertainment journalist for the World Entertainment News Network, she also sang with local group the Bolsha Band. Amy Winehouse was a very successful musician, and was nominated for many awards. Winehouse was the first British female to win five Grammys. She had an estimated net worth of $9. 8 million as of May 2011, according to the Sunday Times UK Rich List. Winehouse signed to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002.
Her A&R representative was Darcus Beese at Island/Universal. Adot was a sponsor of the Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball. The Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball is one of the most highly anticipated events on the charitable calendar. Amy Winehouse had serious issues with substance abuse and the law. In 2005, she went through a period of drinking, heavy drug use, violent mood swings and weight loss. In2007, Winehouse cancelled a number of shows in the UK and Europe, due to exhaustion and ill health. She was hospitalized during this period for an overdose of heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and alcohol.
In many interviews Winehouse admitted to having problems with self-harm, depression, and eating disorders. A U. S. reporter wrote that Winehouse was a "victim of mental illness in a society that doesn't understand or respond to mental illness with great effectiveness". This affected her image even more. Also in October 2007, she was arrested for marijuana possession, with her husband, Blake Fielder. In 2006, Winehouse admitted punching a female fan in the face for criticizing her decisions of having Blake Fielder-Civil as a husband. Then she attacked her own husband when he attempted to calm her down, kneeing him in the crotch.
In 2008 Winehouse admitted to slapping a 38-year-old man in the face and was charged with assault. She voluntarily turned herself in and was held overnight. Amys physician said that was treated with Librium for alcohol withdrawal and anxiety, and underwent psychological and psychiatric evaluations, but refused psychological therapy. All these issues affected Winehouse career in many ways. She lost many fans who were loyal to her, she gained a bad reputation and her career ended due to her death that was caused by alcohol intoxication. Her death also had a heavy impact on the industry because without her there is no industry.
The industry suffered heavily due to Amy Winehouse’s death. Amy definitely needed a handler. The handler could of prevented all her out physical breaks with the people she assaulted. I believe that many celebrities are being caught with issues that deal with substance abuse because they have so much going on in their life that they feel that this can be used as a stress reliever or a form of relaxation that just gives them a break from their everything they have going on, or they just feel that because they are famous they can do whatever they want.
