It is a matter of fact that alcohol problem strongly affects not only the USA, but also many countries of the world. The negative sides of alcoholism are known: serious health problems and social exclusion.

It is easier to become dependant from alcohol than coping with its far-reaching consequences. Moreover, it is difficult for people who suffered alcoholism to become equal members of society once more. Researchers argue that alcohol problem has been changing from ear to era, but they agree that alcoholism was very important problem of many nations.Research efforts and expanded treatment aren’t enough to escape from alcoholism – a person should become aware himself that he/she is seriously ill and needs treatment. The reasons leading to alcoholism have been varying from ear to era. For example, alcohol problems were caused by scrabbling for post-Repeal influence in one century, whereas modern alcoholism is claimed to originate mostly from social and personal problems.

Firstly when fighting alcoholism, scientists didn’t view it from the perspective of disease. Only in the middle of the 1970 scientists started to think of alcoholism as a disease. Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) was the only informal society in the country aimed at recovering alcoholics and offering them support. The society stressed the role of spiritual renewal and mutual support. With the time AA successfully developed and remained stable organization operating in alcoholism-related arena.

In the middle of 1970 alcohol problem were paid more attention and in the beginning of the 1980s the treatment methods significantly expanded. Despite new treatment approaches the number of alcoholics didn’t decrease and only in 1980s official statistics marked slight slow down in figures. The reheated shift was noted with the emergence of alcohol-related problems and the number of people died in accidents because of driving drunk increased dramatically. As a counterstrike, huge campaigns were launched against alcohol impaired driving.Among organization which participated in those campaigns were Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Remove Intoxicated Drivers, and Students Against Drunk Driving.

Alcoholism caused significant shifts in moral values and patterns of social behavior, though people forget that alcoholism has far-reaching consequences which can’t be eliminated at once.It is known that many definitions of alcoholism exist in contemporary vocabularies, but the result is the same: dangerous intoxication. Despite negative consequences people can’t manage not to consume alcohol.I am sure that alcoholism makes people drink in daggering amounts, but we must realize that such people are seriously ill and they need our help and support.

Alcoholics appear to be unable to control their drinking manifests.Alcoholism affects both physical health and psychological stability. Side effects of excessive alcohol consumption are cirrhosis of liver, epilepsy, pancreatitis, alcohol dementia, polyneuropathy, nutritional deficiencies, increased chances of cancer, heart diseases and sexual dysfunction. In hard cases alcohol intoxication may lead to fatal consequences. Moreover, I want to outline social effects of alcoholism.

For example, alcoholism leads to unemployment, financial problems, legal consequences, criminal charges (impaired driving), etc. Further, personal life suffers as well as alcoholism is main reason of divorces, marital conflicts and even domestic violence.I think that such organizations as, for example, Alcoholic Anonymous, should be supported by the government as they offer real help and return alcoholics to normal life. Such organization teaches how to stay sober and how to achieve sobriety.

Alcoholics should resist from temptation to drink on daily basis.Psychotherapy and group therapy are also promoted and encouraged. In my opinion, such societies offer not only experience, and valuable recommendations; moreover, they offer strengths and hope for better future for every person who asks for help and assistance.
