This paper will focus on an article concerning federal legislation and the Court's interpretation of the law concerning the airline industry's personnel.  I find this interesting since it talks about the legality of terminating an airline employee.Hall (2008) discussed in his article the dispute between an airline and one of its flight attendants regarding the availment of sick leaves.  The airline's management maintained that the termination of one of its flight attendants due to poor performance and constantly calling in sick was in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act.

The sacked attendant argued that those sick calls were allowable because she met the basic 1,250 flying hours required under the law.The Sixth Circuit has ruled in favor of the airline since its HR department was able to prove that the attendant failed to met the required hours, while the employee failed to validate her claim that she worked for more than the required time.Hall's article is clear on why the Court sided with the company.  The reasons were properly enumerated and elaborated.  Despite the flight attendant being pregnant during the period in dispute, it was not enough to guarantee her her job at the airline company.

Hall's article is useful for future flight attendants and pilots as reference material when computing for work hours and availment of benefits.  In any industry, following rules and regulations is very important.  Hall succeeded in delivering his point across.Articles like this serves to warn, and remind at the same time, the people working for airline companies regarding the importance of proper documentation and adherence to rules.  While it is a pity that the flight attendant lost her job, it is unavoidable because the airline would also like to protect its interests.Airline Management 3ReferenceHall, D.
