Now more than ever do I understand the phrase, "the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer. " In the play the “Nickel and Dimed”, the author Barbara Ehrenreich writes about her experience as a member of the low-wage workforce that serves our meals, cleans our homes, and cares for our elderly. In her journey she tries to find out just how people survive on the minimum wage salary. To do this experiment she looked for a job and a place to live, worked that job, and tried to survive in three different cities in America.This experiment was done to experience the struggles that low wage workers have due to recent Welfare reform.
These workers depend solely on what they received from these low paying jobs. This experiment will help her figure out whether or not these low wage workers are able to survive financially. The theater participants did a phenomenal job on this production. The set pieces were very much well used throughout the production. The props and set pieces also helped the audience get a better feeling and understanding of the setting of that in particular scene.
The stage crew also did a good job at clearing the stage or setting the stage up in-between scene changes. The actors did a great job at portraying their character the only problem that I had was that at sometimes it was just a little harder to understand what they were saying up on the stage from the back of the audience. The costumes that the main character had as well as all of the rest of the characters also helped portray their characters personality as well as the time setting and scene.
