Assessing how environmental and geographical factors, such as location and availability of resources have affected and continue to affect the development, distribution, and diffusion of the human race over time is intriguing. There are several examples of how society’s start and why. One example is the site of ancient Mesopotamia, the birthplace of the world’s first civilizations. Diffusion is the movement of things and ideas from one culture to another.

When diffusion occurs, the form of a trait such as tea drinking may move from one society to another but not its original cultural meaning. Two significant factors that contributed to the development or expansion of the United States are The Gold Rush and The Dust Bowl. There are many significant environmental and or physical geographic factors that contribute to the development of early human society in Mesopotamia. The Flat Mesopotamian land was built up from mud and clay deposited by two great rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates. These twin rivers come down from the mountains in the north, cut southeastward through hilly grasslands, and finally cross the plain they created to reach the Persian Gulf. The human society grew beginning with the Sumerians, who lived near the mouths of these rivers.

This gave them access to the land. The rich and fertile land produced copious crops of flax, wheat, beans, olives, and grapes. This commodity drew people together and a society civilization began. Dinking tea.

Where did it all begin? As early as the seventeenth century, China considered green tea a medicinal drink because of its bitter taste and purported health-giving properties. (Saberi, 2010, p. 85) The Dutch brought the first shipment of Japanese and China tea to Amsterdam in 1610.This became and expensive novelty drinks that only the wealthy with high quality expensive tea sets to drink it.

The Dutch then marketed it to other countries like Germany. When the tea made its way to France, it was also considered a fashionable expensive drink. In the United States the colonists favored tea until the tax imposed on it caused the Revolutionary War in 1775. (Saberi, 2010, p.

112) Turmoil and war has occurred for the diffusion of tea from China to United States. Expansion and the development of the United States can be broken down into many significant historical factors. Two of them, The Gold Rush and The Dust Bowl are good examples. What is known to be the most famous geological event in U. S.

history may well be the California Gold Rush, which began in 1849 after gold was discovered the year before at Sutter’s mill. Over 300,000 people traveled from far and wide to be a part of the fortune they seek. With this eruption of travel, the means of transportation were improved. For the nation, the glow generated by its gold rush made California a cynosure and produced a quick political reward.Improvements as well as profits from hydraulic mining were enormous and the states economy boomed. The Dust Bowl brought on some big changes in the expansion and development of the United States.

As the droughts of the early 1930’s deepened, the farmers kept plowing and planting and nothing would grow, the ground cover that held the soil was gone. The Dust Bowl of the 1930’s lasted about a decade and the movement of people was profound. Nearly 500,000 American people migrated from their homesteads and farms within the first five years of the Dust Bowl. About half made their way to California where there was promise of opportunity. The population of migrating people was nicknamed “Okies.

” The transplant of farmers settling into labor jobs in the Central Valley and southern California helped wartime and post-war expansion of Southern California defense industries. By 1935 the federal government formed a Drought Relief Service as to help the farmers from going bankrupt. After that was implemented, the Works Progress Administration was created which employed 8. 5 million people. By 1939 rain and the coming of World War II finally brought an end to the drought.

The country pulls out of the depression and the plains are golden with wheat once again. In conclusion, there are many significant and or physical geographic factors that contributed to the development of Mesopotamia. The land and the location was the draw for the Sumerians as they started the crops that brought more people to the area. The diffusion of drinking tea from China to the United States took many paths but in the end the cultural reasons for tea drinking has remained. The Gold Rush and The Dust Bowl historical events are two examples of the expansion and development of the United States.
