Develop policies and procedures for accidents, illness & emergencies, Behaviour, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities and explain how these will be implemented. I have written up the above procedures to suit myself and my home. I will e-mail all my procedures to each parent/carer and ask them to sign to say that they have read them through and understand them.

The parent/carer can take the time to read them and then bring to my attention anything that they feel will not work for them or their child.Where possible I will be flexible however I can not change a policy to suit a parent or child if it does not suit my surroundings. All the policies I have the written up will be available to look at whenever anybody needs to. The parent/carer will be e-mailed a copy (I will print off any copies for parents/carers who do not have access to the internet) I will also show these procedures to any student or new member of staff I may take on in future years to come. At the bottom of each policy or procedure I have detailed, in the bottom right hand side, when the policy/procedure is to be reviewed. For the first year I will always be going back to my procedures to check I’m doing everything on there and there is nothing new I have to add.

However once I am up and running I will review these annually. Page 1 Behaviour Policy I understand the to need to set out reasonable and appropriate rules to help manage the behaviour of children in my care. By providing a happy and safe environment I will encourage the children to develop social skills which will help them be accepted and welcomed in society now and as they grow older.I will not administer physical abuse or any form of punishment with the intent to cause pain nor any kind of humiliation or hurtful treatment of any child in my care. I will help the children understand the house rules, which are realistic for each child’s age and ability. I will ensure that The rules are reasonable and achievable.

When telling a child off for their unacceptable behaviour I am clear in explaining what they did wrong & why the behaviour was unacceptable. I listen to what the children have to say. I reward good behaviour. There are several ways to deal with a child who is misbehaving, depending on the situation I may use some of the following Remove the child from the situation and give them a different activity to continue with. If the child is old enough to understand I will discuss their behaviour with them, making sure they understand the consequences this may cause and ensuring they understand its their behaviour I do not like, not them.

Depending on the situation and location I may just ignore their bad behaviour, as I feel this is just being done to get a reaction.Removing the child from the situation completely & place them somewhere quietly for a few moments to think about their actions. Removal of treats or stickers. If a child misbehaves I will inform you by writing it in their daily communication book or inform you after collection as some children may become upset if its told in front of them. I will inform you of the action I took to deal with the mis-behaviour.

In most cases the incident will not require any further action from yourself as punishing a child hours after the incident may only cause confusing and upset for no reason. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s behaviour or the way I deal with it please talk to me and we can arrange the best way to deal with it. . Page 2 Equal Opportunities Procedure All the children in my care are given option to play with every toy in my home. None of the toys are just for boys or just for girlsI like to give all children the opportunity to reach their full potential while they are in my care This could mean adapting an activity so all the children can join in if one child’s ability isn’t as good as another’s (could be different ages) by doing this I can provide extra resources or give 1 child extra support if its needed during a particular activity. I will ensure all the individual needs of each child are met. I encourage the children to respect each other & value everybody as an individual. No child in my care will be discriminated against, whether it be skin colour, culture or language, gender, family background or ability.

I will discuss with anybody whose remarks I find are inappropriate. (Childminder)…………………………….....

... Page 3 Illness Procedure Whilst I know it is important for you to have reliable Child Care, it will not be possible for me to care for your child/ren is they are poorly or infectious. A sick child needs the love and care of their parent/carer to help them recover.

A child who has been poorly or infectious can also comprise the health of the other children in my setting. If your child is unwell please keep them at home until they are better. If your child has encountered diarrhoea or vomiting please keep them at home until 48 hours after the last incident. Children can often have minor colds & coughs, If this occurs I am happy to care for the child/ren however if they are unwell, have a high tempreture or are infectious I would not be able to care for them as I have to consider the other children in my care. Also if I caught an illness I would not be able to provide childcare for anybody else.

I may refer to “The Spotty Book” for help & guidance on infectious diseases and incubation periods. If your child becomes ill whilst in my care I will make them as comfortable as possible, whilst trying my best to prevent cross-infection to any other children. I will contact either yourself or your emergency person immediately and inform you that your child needs to be collected. I will continue to care for your child and make them as comfortable as possible until you arrive. This will also be recorded in my incident records book.

If a child has a disease, diagnosed by a doctor, then I must inform Ofsted and RIDDOR as soon as possible but within 14 days of the illness and follow their guidance.Information on Notifiable diseases can be found on line at http://www. hpa. org.

uk/Topics/InfectiousDiseases/InfectionsAZ/NotificationsOfInfectiousDiseases/ListOfNotifiableDiseases/ I am happy to administer medication prescribed by a doctor with written premission - please see my medicines policy. If I am unable to work due to my own illness then I will inform you as soon as possible. I would be extremely grateful if you could contact me atleast an hour before they are due to arrive (if possible) if you are keeping you child at home because of illness. If you have any concerns, I will be happy to meet with you to discuss them. ……………………………….

.. Page 4 Accident/Incident Policy The safety of the child comes first & I will take every measure I can do to protect your child from hurting themselves, however there are times where acidents can happen. If an accident does occur I will do all I can to comfort the child & reasure them. I will preform any first aid procedures that may be required.I have a first aid certificate which I refresh every year & complete a full course every 3 years.

Once the child is more settled and calmer I will contact either yourself or your emergency person and inform you of what has happened & if necessary ask you to collect the child. If the child has to attend hospital I will ask you to meet me there. After every accident, however minor, I will record it in the accident book and ask you to sign it to ensure you have seen this. If an accident/incident requires any medical treatment I will inform Ofsted my Noel Quinn advisor. If you could keep me informed of the childs condition after the incident and if you have had to consult (further) medical treatment. (Childminder)……………………………............................................ Date……………………………….............................................................................. Page 5 Fire and Emergency Evacuation Procedure I, will ensure that the below evacuation plan is followed to each point & is regularly carried out so each child knows the procedure in case of a real emergency. It is practised in a sensitive way so the children do not get upset or frightened. I record each practice and that is placed in my fire drill book. I will be practising this fire drill every month for the first 6 months. Once I am comfortable with the drill I will then change this to every 3 months. If any issues come to light I will then review my risk assessments. In the event of an emergency or fire I, , will escort the children from the premises calmly & quickly, using the nearest fire exit. The fire assembly point will be in the bus stop, next to the telephone box.I will take my mobile phone, emergency contact list along with the register to ensure all children are present. I will do this as long as it does not compromise the safe evacuation of the premises. ONCE EVERYBODY IS OUT, NOBODY IS TO ENTER THE BUILDING. On arrival of the bus stop (safe place) I will phone the emergency services & contact parents/emergency contacts My property is fitted with fire alarms on both levels and are checked on a weekly basic. I have a fire blanket & a fire extinguisher placed in the kitchen in case of small fires I maybe able to tackle myself.A separate fire risk assessment is carried out and reviewed annually. I will include the evacuation procedure in the induction folder. This way any student or new member of staff can read it over and be aware of the procedure. Childminders Signature………………………………................................................. Date……………………………….............................................................................. Page 6 Safeguarding Children Policy As a childminder my responsibility is to ensure the safety & welfare of all the children in my care.I have completed a Safeguarding and Awareness course and am aware of signs and symptoms of abuse, Physical, Emotional & Sexual, also those symptoms of neglect. If I have any reason to suspect a problem I will seek advice from Ofsted & DCMA. If I have a reason to believe that any child in my care is being abused in any way I will follow the local safeguarding children’s procedures & report this matter to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Under these circumstances I would not be able to keep the confidently but will need to share information with the appropriate people.
