Becoming an educator, especially in recent years has been considered one of the most demanding yet rewarding professions in the work force today. Teaching, with its benefits and intellectual motives has risen to become one of the most sought after jobs in society. But even after taking such rewards into consideration, one might want to analyze how time consuming and emotionally draining teaching young people may turn out to be. Along with its rewards and demands, teaching is not only a potentially prestigious profession but also a very unique and sometimes life long career opportunity.
Exploring teaching has become a popular tactic in recent years for people to make a better decision on whether or not teaching is a career for them.Individuals, especially in todays society, tend to choose their professions based on a variety of different reasons. For many, the opportunity to do something they enjoy in life attracts them to that particular area of work. For many people, young and old, having the skills to teach an individual and being able to properly use these skills has proven to lead to some of the most exhilarating experiences anyone could ever have on any given day.
Although some people choose teaching as a career because they want to follow in the footsteps of former admired teachers or family members, the main reason usually is to be able to work with young people. Interaction with children on a day to day basis in or out of the classroom not only helps them, but also gives the teacher that needed sense of accomplishment. It feels good knowing you were able to help and guide someone through not only schoolwork but also life, as is true with young people. Being needed by young people gives teachers that desire to put forth-extra effort during each day and really giving them something to look forward to. For the most part, teachers enjoy being able to work with young people in areas they may need guidance in. For some however, helping people is not a top priority when it comes to the teaching profession.
Many jobs in society today do not offer the same types of benefits as ones in this area of work. Teachers for example, enjoy holiday vacations, weather delays or postponements and long summers in which they are paid for. Because teaching can become very time consuming, teachers usually welcome these breaks to usually spend time with family, travel or enjoy hobbies that they may not have been able to do while working. Paid time off is enough in itself to attract people towards a teaching occupation and regular salaries have been increasing in recent years as well. Over the past thirty to thirty-five years teachers salaries have increased dramatically.
It has been shown that the average school teacher, who works in the Northeast, will make anywhere between thirty-two and forty-five thousand dollars annually plus previously listed benefits. It is also probable that these average salaries are only going to increase with time, thus attracting many more to the field of teaching. With increased salaries, personal gratification, and enjoyable benefits being a teachers main attractant, job security should be at the top of this list as well. If a teacher has been granted tenure after his or her first few years in their profession, he or she may not be removed from their job without exceptional reasoning. Tenure almost guarantees teachers a secure job for life.
With all the possibilities that becoming a teacher offers, it is not a surprise that the teaching professions today have been on the rise and will continue to in years to come.Teaching, in recent studies has become one of the most demanding and time consuming professions in society today. The words time consuming and demanding seem to drive would be teachers away from this opportunity because they do not feel that the job is worth the hard work. Although almost everyone knows a thing or two about teaching, it may not be something someone wants to choose as a possible career. First, teachers tend to work long hours in the classrooms with students and much more of their time is spent outside the classroom planning future activities and curriculums, which can be quite complex. Aside from planning a particular day in the classroom, teachers must evaluate not one but all of his or her students on a daily basis.
This, along with being able to present knowledge in an understandable manner are probably the most important tasks of being a successful teacher. Teachers must also be able to notice how quickly or slowly they need to present material to a group based on an evaluation of the group as a whole. Being able to work well with young people makes this part of the profession much more enjoyable and easy to do. What makes a successful teacher is the ability to work well with, communicate with and entertain young people to ensure an increased level of success.
If an individual is unable to keep high levels of enthusiasm during the course of the day or while in front of a group of people, teaching would become a very tough job to enjoy. A high level of energy throughout teaching performances along with a good attitude are necessities in a teaching career and should be kept at that level at all times. Of course a high paying, high benefit career will help will help with the enthusiasm of the worker but many people do not consider teaching as having even one of these qualities. Although teaching offers some of the best job security in society today, it seems that beginning salaries are what is steering those people away.
Even with salaries being quite respectable considering all the benefit that are included, most people would much rather work to receive more money and less rewards. As we all know, people would rather work during a summer vacation and make more money than to not work at all and make a lot less. Many people tend to say that teaching s a low profile job that does not require much talent to excel in. The truth is, if you are not well associated with young people, willing to dedicate yourself to a time consuming profession with average salary or willing to promote yourself in a professional manner everyday, teaching is not a job for you.Teachers, as many will agree, should be there to set moral and ethical examples in and out of the classroom for their students and even society. Students and children should be able to look to their elders, especially teachers, as role models and friends.
A teachers attitude, character, effectiveness and workplace are looked upon by many to be the most important attributes of a person in such a field. Changes need to occur for their role in society to be looked at with a little more prestige. Teachers in todays society for example are permitted to smoke outside the classroom while students are banned and punished if caught doing so. If students are aware that their role models are smoking, it is only going to make them think it is alright to follow in their footsteps.
Smoking on the job for teachers, although it is outside the school, should not be permitted and should be saved for times off school property and after school hours. Another problem seen in schools today is the poor quality of buildings and other educational facilities that are of little use to the students. This topic has become one of, if not, the most controversial topic among parents, children and the rest of society. For students to get the most out of their time spent in school, some changes need to be considered to improve the environments in which these children are placed.
Although a quality education is a necessity to succeed in life, if children are placed in situations that are not suitable, many will not look to learning as being an important part of their life and it will most likely take a back seat to many other things. The same issue applies itself to teachers as well as the students. Teachers should be able to enjoy coming to work everyday wanting to perform at their best. Employees who work in an enlightening, safer environment are going to produce better results than those who work in an unsafe, grim place everyday. For teachers to acquire a higher significance in our society some goals need to be set in order to keep teaching on a noble list of professions.
Better learning and working environments along with a few new prohibitions here and there is only going to better the role of teachers in society today and in years to come. After looking into the teaching profession and getting an in-depth analysis of such a career, one can then make the important decision of whether teaching is really for them or not. If being able to communicate with young people and knowing that you are needed on a day to day basis is enjoyable for an individual, then teaching may be something to get involved in. As far as a challenging career is concerned, teaching requires patience, flexibility and knowledge. If way above average salaries and a non-complex profession are what someone is seeking, teaching may not be a career to get too serious about.
More or less, teaching is quite the prestigious job and is looked highly upon by many which has over the years, put a very high value on teaching and education. With all of the many good and poor aspects of teaching available to people, now they are able to make a solid judgement on whether or not they are capable or willing to get into such a career.
