Tech for Bus Strategies Charles This Abstract Technology is both good and bad, depending on how we apply it. According to our Jesuit values we are to make good use of the talents given to us by God.
Technology is a gift given to us by God, and as such, has value. We, as members of organizations, must also remember that people are more valuable than other created things. These values are the foundation for our moral obligations. This paper explores "Contemplatives in Action;" researches how businesses must Judge their application f IT with respect to its value in realizing good and fulfilling moral obligations; and how organizations can use this Jesuit value to develop an solid ethics plan for using technology and information systems. Technology is a tool with which we can manage and preserve our natural world, provide products, foster growth, support those in need, and to educate and protect ourselves.
Scientific advances allow businesses to use technology to reach goals more easily and more completely than ever before.Information technology is powerful, and without proper control this power can create a lot of damage. It can be abused by hose who do not contemplate their actions or perform self-audits in their organizations. The current environment we live in makes it difficult for us to lead a life of thoughtful contemplation without frequently interacting with earthy or material things. Organizations do not have the ability to recover lost values by simply abandoning the technology because society has become reliant upon it. Our approach in regard to technology requires watchful contemplation to ensure we serve God and His Law and our fellow Man.
Contemplatives in Action, or truly mediating on an organization's use of technology, meaner using a critical approach to he development and use of information technology systems (Showman, 2012). It is errant thinking to view contemplation and action as opposites; they are actually complements of each other. Contemplatives are related to action. Contemplation gives actions direction and meaning. Contemplation keeps us grounded and keeps organizations from becoming caught up in action to the point that they lose sight of goals or compromise integrity.
Contemplative computing in business is not a contradictory or incongruous statement. The idea is simply that organizations have the ability to use information technologies and social media so they're not endlessly castrations and do not place heavy demands on our time. Instead, contemplative use of information technology helps us be more mindful, focused and creative (Showman, 2012). Companies can engage in unethical business behavior by violating an individual's privacy through the application of technologies.
Companies can track the internet usage, buying habits, individual movement, and collect personal information about millions of customers. Companies monitor employees and visitors and collect much additional information in the name of security. Organizations monitor email. Further complicating employee-organizational relationships, companies may zestfully be restrictive in terms of what is allowed within the business; but restrictions become ethical problems when the company tries to extend them into the private lives of employees (Benumb, 2001).Leaders of an organization have to contemplate whether or not technology can be useful in a manner consistent with the organization's values.
Organizations must ensure that applications of technology are not unethical and do not infringe on the rights of individual. In order to prevent ethical lapses use Contemplatives in Action, and then apply internal policies. Companies that employ surveillance technologies must ask themselves about the ethical implications of monitoring. Companies must restrain their applications of monitoring technologies to keep surveillance from reaching an unjustifiable level.
Organizations cannot simply violate moral and ethical principles while waiting for legislation to define what is legal or ethical. Businesses desiring to be seen ethical must decide what is appropriate; independent of legislation. Businesses that want to be seen as ethical must contemplate the good and bad of applying certain technologies, as they may cause harm. Additionally, they should restrict applications that to what is absolutely necessary. Conclusion Technology is a part of our lives, and it can be a helpful or hindering on our life's journey.
Ethical use of technology is not a new problem, nor is it one that will go away soon as new applications of technology develop. Information systems and technology is a tool, given to us by God. We are also given the gift of Contemplation. Contemplation meaner taking the time to seeing everything as it truly is.
More than just form of prayer, contemplation is the awareness that God is present in our lives right now. Contemplation is the awareness of God's presence, an awareness that is ICC in meaning and possibilities.
