A History of the Hawaiian Islands brings the story on how James Cook was the first to discover the Hawaiian Islands, his decision to befriend the natives and the decision to stay at the islands when it seemed he should go to save his own life. Did he deserve to die for attempting to make a wrong a right? Did the Hawaiian make a terrible mistake in taking the life of Cook? Some would say he made the wrong decision and that is the reason he lost his life, I say he made the right decision because up until he died he id not give up like most people would, he kept fighting; he kept going and learned a lot in the process up until his death. Captain James Cook discovered the Hawaiian Islands, at first it was confusing he had native friends in the south pacific but they never mentioned there was islands that far north. The natives did not trust anyone; some came to the shore with makeshift weapons Cook knew he would convince them he was not a danger the natives welcomed them but did not go aboard the ship. They were fascinated by the ships and the use of iron.
Cook was fascinated how they could vive without anyone else coming or going from the islands. Cook opened up to the natives fairly quickly, traded with the natives gave them things they could not get easily. The natives gave them things they never had, even the women of the islands.Cook let the natives set the tone of all the dealings since it was their land and he was a foreigner.
The one main problem that Cook had was the Hawaiian were thieves and from the first time he let them on board the ship, Cook had no idea it would be the death of him. Captain Cook was a trustworthy man, maybe too trustworthy, I say e was brave since he would let the natives come aboard and even let a few stay in the ship overnight. I also believe he was Just showing them that foreigners were not bad people and we had no reason to harm them.I think that Cook underestimated the natives quite a bit, they may not be educated or no anything about other worlds, however; they have had to learn to live off the land, they fought each other and one thing I do not think Captain Cook realized is even though he was considered friends with the King, Cook troubles would not be considered major to the natives since Cook as a guest as well as his crew as well as throughout the history of the Hawaiian Islands I believe many foreigners have not realized this too. When one of the crewmen died the relationship between Cook and the natives were strained, they threw rocks at the ship and continued to steal.
Captain Cook could have saved his life by leaving the islands then, however; instead he stayed thinking issues could be fixed since Cook became fast friends with the King of Hawaii as well as many others. Captain Cook also did not have any type of information inquiring the HawaiianIslands and I think this also is another reason why he did not leave the islands when he had the chance, he was exploring and the information had to be retrieved for others to understand what else what out in the world. Captain Cook had to be the one to take the reins and he did, his bravery exceeded others, greed took over the minds of the Hawaiian they only wanted to obtain what they could for themselves. To me in Captain Cooks mind failure was not an option for him.To me no matter what Captain Cook did it was not good enough for some of the Hawaiian, since they clean to steal Trot COOK. I nee Hallways 010 not Dully unreason ten world, I believe the Hawaiian made a terrible mistake by killing Captain Cook.
Cook was an extraordinary man with many achievements, so why was it so imperative that some of the Hawaiian take from a man who already had given them so much and who they became such great friends with during his third voyage? It would be understandable if it was his first but it was not, Cook had let it slide long enough, Cook wanted those responsible held accountable for their actions Just like those that do wrong in his world. This is where I believe Cook was at a loss. The Hawaiian at this point in time did not have laws in place but he kept fighting for what he believed was right. I agree with his actions, he wanted to make a wrong a right and deep down I think he thought he could teach the Hawaiian responsible for the theft to be civilized instead of acting as mere savages. After some time I believe Cook Just kept all his anger to himself and Just could not hold onto it any longer, he decided to take matters into his own hands, but the plan he had in place use he had already avoided death a couple mimes by the Hawaiian, but he did not fully understand the ins and outs of the political and religious aspects of the people, I think Cook was Just ignoring the signs, even if it was a petty crime Cook came from a different place and I believe that was his downfall, but I also believe he did what no other would have done he stayed, fought for what was right and inevitably he lost his life.It was only a small portion of Hawaiian who took the life of Captain James Cook, however it has made a significant impact not only on the Hawaiian Islands but as well as thousands of miles away on he other worlds, with Cooks discovery and ability to maintain great strength to keep fighting these discoveries have lived on.
Cook did not deserve to lose his life, the Hawaiian responsible made a mistake in killing Cook since they lost the ability to obtain any new items after the rest of the crews left, they would not see anything new until the next ships would arrive to explore what Cook had discovered. Cook made friends as well as enemies with the natives, he may have trusted too much but he knew he had to keep going regardless of the consequences.
