In the era of technology, human must try to facilitate technological innovations in every aspect in their life. As technology can reduce cost, manpower, and every other resources that an organization may use to smoothen its business operations. Embracing such philosophy is what the extent report about, as the author was able to demonstrate how the latest technological innovations can facilitate and enhance the education sector in the Asian Pacific region. The report contains an explanation of the sponsored company IBM, and how it will stand its competitors in the market through the use of sophisticated marketing tools to gauge the ability of existing market competitors' influence on IBM's products and services.
Furthermore; the report contains details of the product in terms of functionality, features, and design, as well as a complete Implementation plan for its deployment. The education sector has witness dramatic changes in its life cycle since the ancient times. And the reason is that education was and always be subject to the technological development in the human life. Education was always associated with how humans develop their learning capabilities. The Chinese for instance started writing on Bamboo stick, and centuries later, they started using paper as medium to record their learn materials (China Today, 2009). Thousands of years later, people started to use paper from tree logs and other sources that nature provides.
However, in the twenty first century; technology has advanced significantly and allowed as to use other mediums to communicate and record our learning as well as life's experience. Many organizations around the world started to shift their business operations to include electronic means of communication only, minimizing their operation expenses to a great extent. In addition to cost, technology can present other advantages too, such as increased availability, lesser processing time, hence better interpretation of data.Having said that, the aim of this report will be how to use the latest technological innovations efficiently, however, it will be the context of education.
Our company; International Business Machine (as known as IBM) is one of the oldest business development firms in the world. IBM established late 1880's; founded by Thomas J. Watson, the headquarters is in Armonk, NY 10504. In mid 1940's IBM presented to the world the first actual computer that can execute complex equations. In the 1960's; the presented a revolutionary business solution SABER, that combine both technology and strategy (Sabre Airline Solutions, 2009).
Therefore IBM can provide business solution almost too any problem. Development department in IBM invented a new device Wireless Reading Device (W R D). The concept of New Wireless Reading Device (W R D) is new technology will be in the field of electronics, especially in the libraries of the universities. Many of the students are facing many problems and the difficulty to finding books in the libraries of the University. Sometimes students may have waiting too long time to get the books. All of these problems and obstacles can be solved by the invention of this device.
We can implementation this technology in the universities and libraries in Malaysia. In the following sections, the author is going to provide more details on WRD in terms of idea creation as well as implementation. As been highlighted previously; the focus of IBM is to develop the education sector using technological innovative solutions. The target market is the Asia region, Malaysia in particular.
The reason why IBM has chosen Malaysia, were for many factors.Firstly; the fact that Malaysia is considered one of the fastest growing countries in the world in terms of technology as well as economy, hence providing a rich and fertile environment for business development. Secondly; Malaysia education sector in particular has developed significantly in the last 3 decades, thus providing an ideal sector to explore with our business solution (Kuppusamy et al, 2009). Thirdly; Malaysian government always encourage development in the education sector using technology, by providing practical solutions to existing problems. In light of the above discussions; IBM has targeted the Universities in Malaysia as the target market for the new technology WRD. As we believe that the increase number of students in the higher education sector is in rapid growth, and Universities need to coup with the high demand of materials' availability.
Online libraries access is getting more expensive to provide, universities libraries are finding difficulties to adjust with the high number of books they need accommodate space for. Not mentioning the hardest part of education which is the constant update of latest learning materials. All these issues in the Malaysian education sector can be both enhanced and developed by our WRD technology. In latter sections of this report, the author is going to discuss in details how WRD will approach the highlighted dilemmas. Systematically approaching the problems a one might face; is very important in the process of creating solutions for these problems. Tony Proctor (1999) has illustrated according to the diagram below, how an organization can properly find many ideas for almost any problem.
Proctor (1999) has argued that defining the problem from different prospective may shade the light on areas a person or an organization may leave out accidently. Hence; IBM has explored the available methods that will help to provide a systematic approach. The methods were, Goal Orientation, Boundary Examination, Progressive Abstraction, Why Method, Decomposable Metrics, and last one Cause and Effect diagram. IBM has decided to use Goal Orientation Method, and the final problem statement is as follow:How to implement the Wireless Reading Device in the libraries of universities using practical steps that will help individuals to use it easily? In every business, it's imperative to identify the possible threats a group of competitors may impose on the distribution and consumption of the product for a particular company.
Hence; in our company IBM we have taken into consideration of performing a competitor analysis, to establish a sound idea of what type of obstacles we might encounter by our competitors in the market.
